  • Shockers host Oklahoma

WSU (13-4) hosts Oklahoma (14-8) at 6 PM on Tuesday in a big mid-week contest.

This is a very close matchup on paper and should be a good test. OU has played a slightly tougher schedule than the Shocks (SoS 29 vs. 61) and, as of Sunday, sports an RPI of 39 (vs. 18 for WSU).

The Sooners are well balanced with a 3.80 ERA (3.61 for WSU) and hit .280 (vs. .272 for WSU). OU hits for less power (11 home runs vs. 20 for WSU) and averages 6.0 runs per game (vs. 6.5 for WSU). Their pitchers have similarly impressive K/9 numbers vis a vis the Shockers.

It will be very interesting to see who each team runs out as its starter with OU coming off a 5 game week and WSU coming off a 3 game week with an abbreviated weekend.

    Go Shocks!

WarrenNolan was locked up for a few hours earlier - updated RPI is 12 for WSU (SoS 48), OU's is 67 (SoS 51).

Today's loss to Kennesaw State stung the Sooners for sure.

Alex Segal getting his first career start tonight.

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State faces its first Big 12 opponent of the season Tuesday night when the Oklahoma Sooners visit Eck Stadium for a 6 p.m. first pitch on COX YurView.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Wondered if this was coming with the 2-game weekend prior. Good luck, Alex

I like it. Hopefully, Alex is ready to go although at this point I am not sure how far they want to push him. His last two outings including a excellent 3-inning, 5 strikeout, 31 pitch, 9 up and 9 down effort against SIU-Edwarsville on March 6th and 1+ innings against UTA on March 11th where he hit a batter and struck out the side in the 6th inning but lost his command in the 7th when he walked the 1st three batters he faced before being pulled with all three of those walks scoring in that inning. He also threw 31 pitches in that game as well.

In his two short February outings he threw 19 pitches against McNeese State in 1.1 innings and 20 pitches in 1 inning against Omaha.

My guess is this will be a predetermined split with Alex probably going no more than 3 innings.

ground ball out. Now another walk. Probably getting close to his pitch count already.

Segal works around 2 walks by getting K and fly out. 0-0, B1

Yeah, 23 pitches in the 1st. If it was warmer they might extend him a little bit but I doubt they do that with tonight's weather.

Man that's a shame Alec had to screw up Segal's Houdini act.

1-0 Sooners on a 2 out 3B error that allows the runner to score from 3rd.

Lungwitz on for Segal to start the 3rd. 44 pitches for Alex.

Sooners go down 1-2-3, still 1-1 to B3.

Bohm is a total badass and probably our best player but tonight so far, just...ugh.

Still 1-1 to the 4th after an inning ending double play with Shocker runners at the corners.

Yeah. Times like that I like to remember that baseball is a game of failure and the other guy is trying too.

Not superb pitching, but no meltdown yet either in couple opportunities.
