  • Wichtia State at Creighton For 3

There are some schedule changes for the Creighton series due to the threat of inclement weather in Omaha on Friday. They will play a DH beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday and a single game at 1:00 pm on Sunday.

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State-Creighton baseball series scheduled for March 16-18 in Omaha, Neb., has been changed due to the threat of inclement weather on Fri., March 16.   The two teams will now play a single game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 and a single game on Sunday, March 18 at 12 p.m.

Looks like it will be a lot nicer in Wichita this weeknd than in Omaha. Why not just move the whole series to Eck Stadium?

Brings back old times in Omaha, the best was the following play,

A clip of "The Throw" by Wichita State's Jim Audley that was the "deep freeze" play in this 1991 College World Series classic

The greatest team ever put on the field by Creighton and the Shockers beat them eight times that season.

      Those were the days baby!

With the abbreviated series the Shocks will run out Codi Heuer (3-0, 4.09 ERA) vs. Kevin Tapani (RHP, 3-0, 1.57 ERA) on Saturday and Liam Eddy (4-0, 1.05 ERA) vs. Mitch Ragan (RHP, 1-1, 4.64 ERA) on Sunday. Saturday's matchup would appear to favor the Jays whereas the Shockers should have an edge on Sunday - hopefully we can steal one on Saturday and be positioned well heading into the finale.

As a team, CU hits .279 (vs. .277 for WSU) but features significantly less power (11 HR vs. 19 for WSU). They do run a bit more than the Shocks (26 SB vs. 17 for WSU).

Shocks have an edge in the arms department (3.67 ERA vs. 5.27 ERA for CU) but that is mitigated somewhat by a shortened series since CU will be running by far their best hurler out for 1 of the 2 games.

        Go Shocks!

Probably fortunate that we're only playing 2.

Creighton has 3 pitchers than have made 9 appearances each in only 14 games and another that's made 8. Tapani is solid but not unhittable and opponents are batting .301 against the Jays. Surprising for an Ed Servais team, these guys haven't fielded all that well, .955 so far. More than anything, I'd like to see this team play with a little more aggressiveness this weekend. Challenge batters more often, and swinging with a purpose at the plate. Not so defensively as in the past week or so.

Getting a Creighton sweep will add a little luster to an otherwise crapped soaked weekend. I need the baseball team to bail me out here.

0-0 to the top of the 5th, both pitchers obviously sharp so far.

Jays break up Codi's no hitter with a 2 out soft single to center in 6th, then lob a fly ball triple into the gap to score the game's first run. The ball didn't even dribble to the track but was just perfectly placed.

1-0 Creighton to the 7th. Hitters need to pick him up.

                    Nice job Paxton.

I was about to complain about pulling a guy who his hitting >0.300 for a guy who struck out in 2 in 3 AB's. I guess Coach Sammy knew what he was doing.

Paxton Wallace with PH double to tie the game up 1-1 in the 8th

Sanburn faces 2 batters in the 9th. Walk. Get behind in the count. 2-run walk-off homer. Creighton 3 - Shockers 1.

Creighton only managed 3 hits for the game.
