  • Through 11 games (~20% of the season), here is where our numbers currently stand:

    Pitching: 3.64 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 10.0 K/9, .227 avg against

    Hitting: .269 avg, .838 OPS, 6.9 runs/game, 16 HR

    Defense: .988 fld%

Competition will stiffen up some starting with next week's road trip. Hopefully we can grab a sweep against UTA this weekend (2 out of 3 probably keeps the train pointed in the right direction but a sweep would make up for today's loss) and keep the confidence at a high level heading into the teeth of our schedule. We will see.

So what does that say about our schedule to date if taking on UTA with an ISR ranking of #170 (out of 237 teams that have played 10 games so far) is a step up in competition? .

Personally, I don't think we will know which direction the train is heading until about mid-way throught the AAC season. That will be after we finish up at Houston on April 22nd.

The Shocker pitchers competed today. Doesn't seem like we can say the same for the hitters. But you have to give some (if not most) of the credit for that to the ORU pitchers.

Hopefully, the guys show they have some Play Angry in them this weekend. We neet to sweep UTA. They have given up 7.6 runs per game in going 4-6 and had 2 of their 3 games with TCU rained out.

Note that I stated the competition stiffens up starting with next week's road trip (@ Mizzou, @ Creighton x 3), not this weekend's series against UTA. Although UTA has finished with an average RPI of 105 over the last 5 seasons, ranging between 73 and 146 each year, so they are likely nothing to brag about but not chopped liver either.

My bad. But my statement still stands. Let's see where were are on April 22nd. At that point we will have played 6 home games and 6 road games against AAC foes (with 3 of the 4 series against teams picked above us in the preseason polls) and will have had non-con games agaisnt Mizzou, Oklahoma, OSU x 2, and Kansas. At that point the team will certainly have been tested and we can evaluate them without wishin' and hopin' and dreamin' and prayin'.

Yep I'm pretty sure there's no danger of anyone prematurely claiming Mission Accomplished on a turnaround at this point, especially after today's loss.

    • For comparison, below is a breakdown of where we finished in each of the previous 11 seasons. This is a wonderful collection of data and I will leave it to our fine readers to interpret, assess and analyze to their hearts' content.

      What a wasted pitching performance.
Unfortunately, being in Louisiana, I haven’t seen the boys but twice. However, being the huge Shocker fan you are, I am sure you have seen them in Fall Ball, then early Spring games live to tell us what I missed.

Or have you even made it to the park to watch a game? Perhaps listened on the radio?

I haven't watched ButlerBall in nearly two years, sad to say. But I gave it a shot. Last year was the first year since my dad started bringing me to games when I was 4 that I didn't see a single WSU baseball game in a season. That's how bad it's gotten.

I listen on the radio obviously, if you can see my activity in every game thread. From what I can tell by the numbers, it appears Dugas is not quite up to the clean-up role, unless striking out is part of the plan. But Todd clearly knows what he's doing, correct?

I have zero idea what Dugas is doing in the lineup. I have expressed that to numerous Shocker fans. He has really been inconsistent with his hitting and his SO rate is way too high.

          • I don't think inconsistent is the correct word. I would say consistency has actual been a staple.
