When will this coaching staff ever learn to check their big, fat egos at the door?

People who constantly pile blame for failure on the shoulders of the players should start looking in a different direction - perhaps the mirror is a start.

Granted it is just a short sound bite, but I thought Gene did seem to be a little distracted while making his post-game comments that were posted on goShockers.com

WICHITA, Kan. - Tyler Grimes hit a bases loaded two-run single to centerfield to give the Shockers a thrilling 7-6 win over the Kansas State Wildcats in 11 innings on Tuesday night in front of 6,722 fans at Eck Stadium.

Perhaps that had something to do with the Ryan Hege situation or maybe Gene's aging grey matter is just not synapting like it used to. (BTW, I can relate to that).

Not sure what's going on with Brent. Could just be the stress of a season gone awry and Ryan caught him at a bad time. Brent was on Sports Daily recently and went into a rant/tirade about the negative comments towards the team and coaching staff this year. In a way, I liked his passion although I'm not sure he is being totally honest with his introspection and his evaluation of the team.

What Brent did on Sports Daily and, very probably, yesterday, is not passion. Passion is doing whatever it takes to succeed, or as Shocker85 said, a coach checking his ego at the door to help the team succeed is showing passion.

Hege questioned Kemnetz about the change and in typical fashion Brent blew a fuse. Hege was told by Kemnetz that he personaly cost the shox 6 games. Pretty stupid statement as I m sure they play as team don't they? I didn't see Hege lose the 3rd game in the Missouri State series with his 2 run Bomb but saw Brent's pitcher give up a 3 run Jack on an 0-2 count to lose the game (very common story for Brents staff). Weren't we behind till Hege homered vs Arizona? In his blow-up Brent said things to Hege that we as working folk's wouldn't take from our bosses! As for his .237 average we all loved him when he was stroking but in a slump we want to bury him. Wasn't Micah hitting .168 but was given a second chance and he is taking advantage, same with Lambert on the second chance--where is his Avg now--yeah only 9 points higher than Hege's. So belive what you read or maybe this is one player that couldn't take the crap anymore. And by the way you could see Hege in the pen with Arens working with the pitchers--must be some kind of teammate. If Gene had control of his team's and their respect the gap between him and Auggie would be closer. Just sayin these are very Good Young Men and need the staff to be leaders and not dictators to be very Good Ball Players. If we expect the best out of the Players shouldn't that be as true of the Coaches?
Obviously you know Ryan on some sort of personal level. Is this issue going to be resolved or has he left the team?

Ryan did not join the team for Bradley and the MVC. Gene wants to talk with him after the team get's home. Gene was supposedly unaware of the total situation according to him. This whole matter could have been handled better by all parties but you can't say the crap to Ryan that Brent did. Remember Ryan played a year at Cowley County under Dave and Lefty. If you can handle the Borroughs Boy's you have pretty thick skin and he has a great relationship with them today. Enuff said Go Shox!!

I hope cooler heads prevail, and that things work out for all involved.

Ryan is a good guy who loves the game. He obviously takes pride in his efforts and most likely felt disrespected.

I was very happy for Bob! I'd be willing to bet that Ryan was happy for Bob's success as well, he was just extremely disappointed with the apparent lack of respect shown him. I hope it was a stupid misunderstanding and gets resolved properly!

Gene should have taken care of the issue after the game. Now we don't have Hege on a big series that we need to sweep and a tourny we need to win. We could have used him as a pinch hitter. I don't understand why he didn't make the trip if Gene wanted talk to him.

Maybe he didn't want BK yelling at him about how many games he lost the Shox this year.

John Lewallen. He too was never heard from again. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Tim Raley underscored that at the baseball banquet this year. Guys were suspended and he got his chance to play. Rails went on to a HOF career and those guys were never heard from again. Bob Arns is on his way. And I'm guessing he is making the trip.

To bad. Just reinforces my view that this coaching staff time has come and went. When your head coach doesn't know what is going on? That is just inexcusable and poor leadership. I can't even listen to kemnitz any more. Between his attitude and being in denial.

Running Hege off really upsets me. He was a good kid and a good ball player. He could have helped us the rest of this year and certainly would have next. Very disapointed that our coaches can't keep their cool and say things to a kid that just wAnted to play.

Two sides to every story, everybody. What a player thinks and what a coach sees are often times completely different. Hege is a great guy and I wish him the best of luck in what ever he decides to do.
