Or ask him to resign if he prefers. Either way, I don't give a damn. I can take a lot of things, I can take losing.....

I cannot take a lack of effort and fight time and time and time again.

    It's not just tonight.

It may be too late to restore this once great program, but it's not too late to at least try.

    This is BEYOND EMBARRASSING.

Please ask Kevin Hooper if he's interested. I understand he is. Hire him today. His teams won't lay down to a shitty Kansas team, I promise you.

Gene is here until he wants to retire. He won't get fired because Eric won't want to be the AD that does it. He won't resign because his ego is too big for that. Gene will not be stepped on and kicked out. He thinks he's God's gift to baseball in Wichita, mostly because everyone tells him that on a daily basis. He'll retire when he feels like it in 5-10 years and we're stuck with him until then.

I don't care what Gene thinks he is entitled to.....if Eric can't see the total failure of this program then maybe he needs to go.

Well, to play devils advocate, it's only been 3 years since we made a Super Regional and we were one game away from the World Series. Also, it might be better this year had we not lost Tim to injury and quite a few recruits to the draft. But I agree somewhat, this season is a disaster and something needs to change on some level. Had Logan Watkins stayed, Grimes would probably be moved to 2nd by now. But alas, he isn't here and we're stuck with a SS who has a cannon, but can't catch.

Eric doesn't have the 'stones' to even think of canning Gene. I'm sure there are many alum out there who look at Gene as a baseball God and he would be too afraid to pull the trigger in fear of any backlash.

Bring in Brad Hill from K-State or Loren Hibbs at Charlotte.

I'd think Hooper or Standiford would be next in line. But you could very well be correct. Both those guys would bring some young blood in here.

Hooper, like the guy, but no. Hibbs is in his 50's, but still younger than Gene.

I hate to say this but the staff needs to go. They don't get what they need to out of players. there are no leaders on this team. tHey need Dirks, Wedge, Dennis, Bluma type of players and leaders and they simply don't recruit or develop that in the program anymore. This is embarrasing and pathetic. Third best team in the state? Oh wait maybe 4th, emporia might be better. This makes me sick!

To get Eric's attention, is in the pocket book. The big donors (including smaller donors), need to back off of SASO donations to get the point across. One might lose priority "points" in SASO, but you might just gain a new baseball coach.

The kids of today don't respect Gene, it is shown on the field. Most weren't even born when they won the College World Series. He can't get them to compete. It's time for someone else.

Can it get any worse? Probably, but I'm not sure how.

That would be a step down for Brad Hill at this point.

I hate to say it but I think XManCometh probably has it right at least for a few more years.

You can come down on Eric as hard as you want but Jim Schaus did not have to take him back after he left for OU either. We have ourselves a Joe Pa problem, although I don't think Joe Pa ever actually checked out and just started clipping coupons.

Gene all but admitted that he did not think he could win at Wichita State anymore when he left for OU and I think that attitude is trickling down to the players, recruits and fans. I know I don't think he can win anymore.

Their is no doubt that Gene believe he owns this baseball program. He has certainly earned some leeway but the question is how much. His personal conduct alone was probably grounds for removal and perhaps an easier sell than removing Gene for on field performance.

You know they want to give the man the opportunity to retire, but as XManCometh stated convincing him that is the right thing to do is another thing.

I don't know have bad things would have to get to convince Gene that he is only tarnishing, if not totally destroying, his legacy.

Let me repeat from another thread:

                      From the Godfather II:

Tom Hagen: When a plot against the Emperor failed... the plotters were always given a chance to let their families keep their fortunes. Right?

Frank Pentangeli: Yeah, but only the rich guys, Tom. The little guys got knocked off and all their estates went to the Emperors. Unless they went home and killed themselves, then nothing happened. And the families... the families were taken care of.

Tom Hagen: That was a good break. A nice deal.

Frank Pentangeli: Yeah... They went home... and sat in a hot bath... opened up their veins... and bled to death... and sometimes they had a little party before they did it.

I would hate to punish the student-athletes by de-funding SASO. I think an avalanche of feedback on Eric's doorstep would get the point across. If I see him at the Gregg Marshall auction Saturday night, I'll bring it up if he stops to actually talk instead of his typical drive-by handshake and a "thanks for coming".

The attendance figures are down from last year. I think that's pretty obvious, even despite the inflated numbers due to the usual season ticket and corporate sales that they include as ghosts in empty seats.

Gene could have left on a higher note, saved face, and earned the respect of the fanbase. He now risks bowing out at the lowest point in the program's history and instead will be looked upon as a relief to see leaving rather than as a great loss. His timing is bad and at this rate, he'll never catch Augie anyways.

The turning point seems to stem around the OU debacle. Just think if things held to form. We could have had Galloway right now..

Good luck with that ISASO. ES just doesn't seem like that type unless you are in the inner circle with him. He is a strange and quirky dude IMO. I would say that you have better odds of getting rid of Gene before ES does.

If you were Brad Hill would you leave KSU for WSU and a rebuilding job in a crap conference? I wouldn't.

Gene didn't ask J.S. to take him back, he went over his head to the President because I think he knew what J.S. would have said. J.S. was probably kicking himself for not announcing Krusty replacement that day.
