Shox vs. Penn State

Beating Penn State is better than beating an MVC bottom feeder or Niagra or NDak, but not by much. Fans must remember, it isn't the name across the front of the uniform, but rather the players wearing the uniform that make a good team.
Speaking of the name across the front vs. real quality, someone needs to come up with a collective term for programs that are in BCS conferences but suck at particular sports. We have Mid-Major for good programs in non-BCS conferences, so how about something for bad programs in BCS conferences?
Big 10 baseball has never been great. Credit that to poor weather in the spring, I suppose, or maybe their love for hockey. There have been good Big 10 teams over the years (Iowa and Minnesota used to have pretty good teams from time to time). Here is the 2010 Big 10 final baseball standings.
Code:2010 Big Ten Overall Conference Non-Confer Team Record Pct. Record Pct. 1. Minnesota 15- 9 .625 32-30 .516 2. Michigan 14-10 .583 35-22 .614 3. Iowa 13-11 .542 30-28 .517 Northwestern 13-11 .542 24-32 .429 5. Purdue 12-12 .500 33-24 .579 Indiana 12-12 .500 28-27 .509 7. Michigan State 11-13 .458 34-19 .642 Ohio State 11-13 .458 28-23 .549 9. Illinois 10-14 .417 26-26 .500 10. Penn State 9-15 .375 22-30 .423
The Shox need to finish their business this weekend and get better. Successful experiences by the young hitters is as important as anything right now, and proving who's going to be effective on the mound this season comes only in games. The schedule doesn't get any easier in Oregon and Hawai'i.

And Tulane's current RPI is 13. (and remember those two losses were by one run, including a walk-off HR)
The MVC has some decent out of conference wins.
Ill State split a two game series with Miami. And they split a 4-game series with top 100 Belmont.
Creighton has several wins in the top 100 too.
Missouri State has a win vs Oklahoma State and #17 Texas State.
Evansville took 2 of 3 from South Florida.
It looks like only SIU and Indiana State do not have top 100 wins.
SIU looks really, really bad.
The MVC is currently #15 and is only .021 from the top 10.
2011 Men's College Baseball Conference RPI (Rating Percentage Index) - a ranking of conference based on the average RPI of the teams in the conference, plus non-conference wins and losses, the best teams and automatic bids from the conferences.
A MVC out of conference discussion might deserve its own thread.
KCShox only deserves our contempt.
Suck it KCShox.

Let me add a normally horrible Bradley team who is 10-6 and has a series win over Arkansas Little Rock, at team just outside the Top 100 RPI rankings.

Sorry 85, but I have no doubt I am simply speaking and responding in the way many, many SN posters feel.
I am hardly the only one that respond and comments about his idiocy.
You can choose to ignore me, if you like. I don't really care.
It takes me about 3 seconds to type: suck it KCShox.
I haven't accomplished everything in my life, but I can spare 3 seconds.
And actually it is kind of like teasing the annoying neighborhood dog, or the monkey at the zoo.

And puhleeeze! Spare me about what the Valley is doing. First off, if you want to really put stock in March RPI's, then the Valley is the 17th rated conference. Second, the only team with a sub 100 RPI right now is us, the rest of the Valley is 100 +. Lastly, 5 MVC teams have SOS of over 200. The only saving grace is if it had not been for those 'decent' wins you pointed out above, then our conference probably would be in the 20's. You need to step it up ABC, your rant is weak.

Oh I definitely love a healthy dose of realism to the board. I wish more people were realists.
However, even KC is being unrealistic at this point. His FAIL with UTA confirms this.
KC makes good points but he is just as bad as those with the constant positive spin on things, only the opposite. It's a shame he doesn't realize this. My real pet peeve with him is when he's posting like it's Christmas anytime WSU does something perceived as "bad", but disappears into the sunset anytime something good happens. Just makes him look terrible.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

The problem with message boards is that the members can only gauge a person by what they read. Is it fair to make assumptions and generalizations of that person by his/her comments on SN? Is that a good way to evaluate someone?
Just because I express my feelings in a manner that is unconventional, contrary to the majority and is disagreeable with certain individuals is not an indication that I am not a Shocker fan. It might be the only thing I have in common with ABC or you for that matter, but we are all Shocker fans. In the end, when it comes to ABC and others like him, we should agree to disagree.
I would be lying however if I did not get a chuckle or two reading what ABC has to say about me. He is well spoken and his rants are articulate. I do enjoy reading what he has to say and from time-to-time, I do agree with him. It's not like I deliberately get on SN to pick a fight with the guy.
With that said, understand you and me love and support the Shox, it's just that we do it in different ways. It's that simple.

I understand this, no doubt about it. I'm not questioning your fanhood as I think most of us have come to grips with how you post. Like I said, you make good points and are realistic for the most part. Did you think Arizona was an opponent we would handle then, because you were awfully quiet for most of that series? Like I said, that's my only peeve with you, but it is what it is.
You don't have to be negative all of the time to avoid the label of "sunshine pumper". A little mix of both is perfect IMO. Otherwise, you'll end up in the "Negative Nancy" crowd, and that IMO, is just as bad and extreme as the Pumpers.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Who is ranting? I am simply making early season observations, nothing more nothing less, whether that is UTA or Old Dominion.
KCShox, I think you mistake people making fun of you with actually wanting to know what you did, what you are doing and what you think.
Actually I am just now reading one of your posts above.
You are weird. I had no point in pointing out some of the results of the MVC's out of conference record so far. I didn't say that it means we are kicking ass or anything else it was just an obvservation.
Frankly it was better than I thought b/c I realize how weak the MVC has been over the last several years.
But yet again, you choose to take some negative look at a simple observation. I simply don't get it.
