This seems to be true throughout sports. When the Royals were looking for a new pitching coach a few years ago Ned Yost was asked about what kind of guy he was looking for, he said he wanted a guy that had a long MLB career while only having mediocre stuff because those kinds of guys really know how to pitch, the result was Dave Eiland.
