Steve Spurrier, Bo Ryan, both quit in the middle of the season. How would they address a player who quit during the season? Not favorably I assure you.

Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Shoot, I didn't read far enough, everybody caught the Spurrier gaffe. Also, Spurrier didn't retire, he resigned. Might as well have retired, though. There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Especially since Ryan is going out at the top of his game, after winning an NC at Whisky.
Superior is an old washed-up shell of a coach and has been irrelevant for at least the last 3 years.
Kinda like a certain old shocker baseball coach we recently retired, except without the NC. I'm sure his resignation would have been forced if he hadn't retired.
Do you think Whisky would've asked Ryan to retire after this season?
Even from your aspect its still not apples and apples.

You really can't win for losing on this one.
Being wrong on a technicality is no different than trying to project Steve Superior as one of the best coaches in football. He isn't. The game has passed him by. Not so with Bo Ryan. Can't compare the two.
And I think it's refreshing that someone's manager thought enough of them to try to give them what he (Ryan) probably felt was a well-deserved chance.
If Ryan hadn't done this, some well-heeled alums would have been lobbying for somebody like a Steve Lavin, for example, because that's how the world works.

I don't think you will find too many fans of Wisconsin or South Carolina that don't appreciate what Bo and Steve did for their respective schools. That said, they shouldn't bail on their teams. I can't use Bo's motivation to put his assistant in a good position as justification. Isn't he using his players as pawns in this plan? Do you think he told them during preseason of this plan? Aren't they entitled a full season of his coaching?Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

College football and the SEC in particular won't be the same without him. I watched USCe play in person this year and noticed that he was walking with a distinct limp. I have to think that whatever was ailing him played a big role in the decision to step aside. At least he can get some rest now so that he is ready to hit the golf course this spring.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Having wealthy alums to help you get or keep a coach isn't all bad, though, just remember it's how we kept Coach Marshall.
But if you think the AD and President have carte blanche in who they hire, you're smoking something. Same with the school. Hell, I've seen the governor here in Texas (Rick Perry) try to stack the regents at BOTH UT and A&M in an effort to get rid of the President because he thought the regents (and president) were too 'liberal'. It worked at A&M, but didn't work at UT.
Remember the golden rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
