  • 2015-16 NOMINATIONS: "Cone of Shame"

  • #2
    Our 1st Nomination goes to:

"St. John's opens Chris Mullin era with 32-point exhibition loss"

Chris Mullin took responsibility for St. John's poor showing in an embarrassing exhibition loss to Division II St. Thomas Aquinas, his first game as the Red Storm's coach.

So this will be like the "Games of Pinterest" thread from last season? I like it. Expecting to see Creighton pop up on here a few times again.

Hoping for the Chicken Birds up north to make the list this year too.

Expand it to football in the Around the NCAA forum, and you could add the entire University of Missouri, with a special mention for their football team. How gald do you suppose Marshall is that he never gave their opening any serious thought a while back? That is not an athletic department that any rational person would want to be anywhere near at this point.

Why would you say something like that? I think the coach played it well. Are you saying that calling African-American students the 'N' word and smearing swatstikas on building walls with human feces didn't deserve investigation from the president and chancellor?

If anything, I'd be embarrassed for the university as a whole.

The coach, by showing solidarity with his players, forged tighter bonds with them. I also think it will help their recruiting.

There's a time to be the boss and there's a time to stand with players. Violations of team rules, not meeting academic requirements, disrespecting the program or other players - boss. Social issues, especially where there may be some proof of harassment (and neither of us can say that for sure one way or another) and intimidation off the field, different.

My thought is that since neither one of us has direct knowledge of what happened, I'm going to give Pinkel the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Zero Evidence of Mizzou Poop Swastika (I will add, so far)

Let's add Bleacher Report, who failed to have Wichita State in their top 25:

This is one of the those years in which there's no clear-cut choice for preseason No. 1, as mentioned in a previous column a few weeks ago. Since then, five teams have gone back-and-forth as my preseason title pick...

That has to be a gross oversight. Not that it's an acceptable excuse.

If not, that's indefensible and more insulting than anything Doog Gooblieb has said over the last 2 years.
                        Deuces Valley.
                        ... No really, deuces.

The letter doesn't prove anything happened. It only repeats the accusation. Did you even read the article I linked? The author has tried repeatedly, through every avenue to find photographic evidence or even a confirmation that anyone in authority saw it. And so far, none. Even if it did happen (I'm not saying it didn't, but without proof it's just an allegation), there's no way to know if it was done by someone trying to "rally the troops"; a false flag, if you will. These are college students we're talking about. Heck, even a J-school faculty member was trying to silence a student reporter and have them physically removed from the protest on public university property. There's a whole lot of stupid on that campus.

It looks like it was an oversight. The updated top 25.
