If Da Bears want to play FBS football, let them knock themselves out (well, not literally; the opponents will probably take care of that). As for me, it's all just one more reminder why I'm glad WSU doesn't play football.
Because you would get your butt kicked? Memphis is picked first in their division in the American Athletic Conference was 10-3 last year and beat BYU in a bowl game. They play at Kansas this week.

Because it's a waste of resources that could be used to build nationally relevant teams in other sports. This isn't a difficult concept.

And anyway, why spend millions creating a completely irrelevant football team at the bottom of the 3rd tier of collegiate football when I could just root for MSU if I wanted.

Maybe they were 10-3 because they play teams like MSU and Kansas.

Its funny because we will get a really nice comparison in back to back games. It's going to be awfully funny if the margin is similar...

I'm already planning to draw all kinds of conclusions about how bad KU and MoSt are after the game is over.

Are you aware that WSU had a choice to make concerning their football program back in the late 1980's? It was:

A - Drop the program from D1-A (current FBS) where it had always existed (albeit without much success), down to D1-AA (current FCS, and the level the MVFC plays at).

            or...

            B- Kill the program altogether.

The athletic director at the time decided no football at all was a better option than D1-AA (FCS) football. It was likely one of the more succinct concepts to ever flow out of Lew Perkins little mind. Let that soak in for a minute, when you want to blow your own horn about your lame ass football team on this forum. We killed our football program so we didn't have to associate with football programs like yours.

              More fun facts:

MSU Athletic Department Revenues (less $2.7M football "revenue"): $12,400,000

WSU Athletic Department Revenues (no football program): $22,700,000

This ocean-sized funding chasm is fairly similar throughout a good number of the MVC publics that play football. It is the foundational issue that makes WSU want desperately out of the MVC, and makes WSU a bad fit in the MVC. We're the guy on the block that takes care of his home - nice yard, nice landscaping, clean windows, good house paint - with the hot wife who sports a bikini when weeding the flower bed. In the MVC we are surrounded by homes that have no landscaping, yards so high they are out of code, a demo derby car on blocks parked in the front yard, and a wife that looks like a female version of Jabba the Hut. We want to move to a different neighborhood where people are more like ourselves, you see?

When is the last time WSU had a crowd of 18000 plus for a home game?

MVFC Football Revenues, Ranked Highest to Lowest:

                    1. NDSU - $4.4M
                    2. SIU - $4.0M
                    3. ISUb - $3.9M
                    4. YSU - $3.8M
                    5. ISUr - $3.6M
                    6. UNI - $3.5M
                    7. WIU - $3.1M
                    8. SDSU - $3.0M
                    9. MSU - $2.7M
                    10. USD - $2.6M

Yep... revenues sitting at 9th out of 10 programs in the MVC sure looks like a surefire trajectory to FBS, if I've ever seen it.

Oh, and just for context, the WSU MBB annual budget after taking into consideration Marshall's new compensation package will be somewhere in the $7.0M-$7.5M range, which will be somewhere around 90th percentile nationally.

I remember 75,000 for a neutral site game in Atlanta a couple years ago.

                      Ohhhhh you meant football?

I really miss the days when MoSt talking trash had any kind of weight to it. It wasn't too long ago that they were one of the toughest games in the conference. Maybe instead of arguing over attendance, they should be figuring out how to afford to buy out their coach's contract and quit playing into Thursday. Right now, I feel like we are a 20 year old beating up a 1st grader in this debate.

I am a big Valley fan, and I would love to see MoSt bring something to the table this season. @Jtaylor:, instead of giving me attendance figures, give me a rundown of the team and what the current vibe is from the fans on how they will do this season. Believe me, I really am pulling for the Bears to get back under control

Also, that's quite a disingenuous question. That'd be like me asking when was the last time Paul Lusk beat Wichita State?

MSU has never even come remotely close to that figure on an average basis. You averaged 11,665 just last year, according to the NCAA. That would rank you 127th out of 129 FBS programs in attendence, should MSU be included for that 129th spot (currently only 128 FBS schools). Your 2014 attendance would beat only Akron and Ball State, who ironically spend $6.8M and $6.5M respectively for their football programs, contrasted with MSU's current paltry $2.7M.

You guys really look like a solid fit in FBS.
