But, as it was stated before, this is UNC, this is a blue blood. This will be a mockery.
If they were to get the death penalty though, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for the ncaa to make an example out of their other sports. UNC may think more about their other major sports than a typical blue blood, but punishing their sports would hardly get the point across and the ncaa knows it.[/QUOTE]

I didn't mean that all the other sports should be punished and basketball should not. I meant that basketball AND all the other sports should be punished, not just to make an example, but because they were all involved with the fraud that UNC has become.

Declare a number before the investigation so that the number is not "tainted" or "cherry picked". Let's use 15% as an example. If, say, 15% of UNC's athletes for a single sport benefited from cheating, then that sport should be eligible for the death penalty. If that means the entire athletic department burns for two years, then that's the price for cheating. If it only means the basketball program, then it's only the basketball program. Whatever it is, it is. What should the number be? 10%? 20%? That should be the question. How much cheating is too much cheating?

I think that unc will get off pretty much Scott free. The only thing that would make me think otherwise would be the fact that if the ncaa doesn't punish unc in some way then you can bet your sweet aaaaa, butt that the likes of Kentucky, smu, Syracuse and pretty much almost every college institution will start offering those type of classes.....

This is still one of the best quotes concerning the NCAA...

You can find a full downloadable PDF of the Notice of Allegations by clicking here. For those who prefer a quick summary of the five charges:
                1. The NCAA charged UNC with providing impermissible benefits via academic counselors in the AFAM department and 10 athletes exceeding independent study course limits.
                2. Jan Boxill, academic advisor to the women's basketball team, is alleged to have provided impermissible academic assistance to women's basketball players.
                3. Deb Crowder, the administrative assistant to AFAM department head Julius Nyang'oro, violated ethical conduct by not assisting NCAA investigation.
                4. AFAM department chair Julius Nyang'oro violated ethical conduct by not assisting with the NCAA investigation.
                5. The NCAA charged UNC with a lack of institutional control for all of the above charges.

Notably absent from the allegations is the name of any football or men's basketball personnel. Roy Williams, John Bunting, Butch Davis and interim football coach Everett Withers were all interviewed in the enforcement committee's investigation, but none were named in the allegations.

I didn't see specific names, but I thought I saw where they said there were emails back and forth alluding to them providing classes/coursework/grades to men's basketball players. I am at work, so only quickly skimmed it on my phone, and could be mistaken.

From what I have heard on the CBS sports basketball podcast - they agree with you. They think the process of handing down penalties will be real, real slow and the NCAA may even given them lesser penalties due to the timing of infractions (they started occurring prior to recent changes in rules).

Not that they give a damn, but if the NCAA lets them off scott free, the tiny bit of credibility that they have left will be out the window. I'd like to be able to say I'd quit watching the NCAA or something like that, but it's simply not going to happen. Thus, the reason they don't have to care about their credibility.

If the UNC gets off scott-free, I'm going to start a school sponsored entirely by Nike and Adidas, called Semi-pro University of Kansas. We don't bother with accreditation because that's a scam anyways. We focus only on our Bachelor of Arts in Coaching programs, where we teach Basketball Coaching, Football Coaching, Soccer Coaching, Baseball Coaching and Volleyball Coaching. We make strong use of efficient pass/fail single-paper courses for ALL of our students (not just student athletes of course, because that would make it a benefit not available to others and violate NCAA rules). And since it's completely legal for students to work for the university, EVERY student athlete will get to show case their stellar academic careers by being chosen to be paid teaching assistants (graders) for the pass/fail courses! And let me tell ya, this ain't no minimum wage gig -- Nike and Adidas make sure our graders get PROPERLY compensated for grading the single paper courses.

                          GO SUK!!

With all the SMU talk, has there been an estimated time frame given for an NCAA decision on when UNC (Charlotte) :) gets the death penalty?

UNC will probably be allowed to appeal any penalties to a civilian court and judge of their choosing in Chapel Hill. The NCAA will then say that all legal avenues have been pursued and they reluctantly are forced to agree with the legal process.
