So Marcus Smart gets the same suspension that Clevin Hannah received. That seems equitable considering the horror of Clevin's violations (actually omissions of an administrator in dotting some 'i's' and crossing some 't's).

The NCAA must be like the old cheeseburger, cheeseburger skit from SNL when it comes to handing out penalties. 3-game suspension, 3-game suspension. No Coke, Pepsi.

NCAA alters rule after Smart case

The NCAA rules committee and officials have tweaked a rule in the wake of Marcus Smart's confrontation with a Texas Tech fan earlier this month, with a flagrant noncontact foul 2 and ejection now given to a player who goes into the stands.

The NCAA rules committee and officials have tweaked a rule in the wake of Marcus Smart's confrontation with a Texas Tech fan earlier this month, with a flagrant noncontact foul 2 and ejection now given to a player who goes into the stands.

The NCAA sent out a memo to all coordinators acknowledging the change Monday, when the rule went into effect.

"The clear intent of Rule 10-1.3.h is to prevent players from leaving the playing court and becoming involved in verbal, physical or any other type of confrontation with fans, team followers, mascots or band members," the memo said of the rule change.

The problem with that is that a lot of time when a player is charging hard he winds up in the midst of cheerleaders, photographers and mascots off
the court. If someone say something the player still needs to ignore it. I suppose this rule really means if the player INTENTIONALLY leaves the court to confront any of the named offenders.
