          Off the cuff ...

          Bigger army.
          More land mass.
          More physical resources.
          Broader political influence.
          Strategic missile locations.
          Strategic military outpost.

The primary benefit is stability on the peninsula. The prefer to have a buffer between them and the west. They want to maintain their influence over the region. NK also has valuable minerals especially rare earth minerals that they would rather like to exploit.

Rumblings again that Kim Jong Un's is in not well

A South Korean diplomat has sensationally claimed that Kim Jong Un is in a coma and his sister is set to take control of North Korea.

Chang Song-min, an ex-aide to late-South Korean president Kim Dae-jung, claimed the DPRK is hiding the truth about its leader's deteriorating health and that he understands the dictator is in a comatose state.

                      • North Korea missile launch caused a "National Ground Stop". However, it may have only been on the West Coast. The last time this occurred was on 9/11.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a full ground stop at all West Coast airports on Monday, as North Korea fired what appeared to be ballistic missiles into the East China Sea.

The stop lasted for about seven minutes, according to San Diego media, citing radio traffic and officials at the San Diego International Airport.

                        • More on the "ground stop" that occurred yesterday that has some audio clips. Nobody in the U.S. government is saying why it occurred. It might have been a mistake.

                          • Let me guess, Biden was taking a nap when the missile was launched and they couldn't get him awake quick enough to make a decision so they erred on the side of caution?

                            • It is believe that U.S. may have been preparing to try and shoot the missile down.

War Zone reports that NORAD advised the FAA to clear airspace around Vandenberg Space Force Base just minutes before the initial ground stop order to pilots was issued.

Vandenberg Space Force Base is located less than 200 north of Los Angeles and has long been the site of U.S. ballistic missile testing and employment. Additionally, Vandenberg is the home of a limited amount of Ground-Based Midcourse Defense missiles capable of intercepting ICBMs.

Did the military prepare to shoot down a North Korean missile from the West Coast? (airforcetimes.com)

                              • So now North Korea can eff up our economy just hurdling (even fake) missiles into the middle of the ocean. Nice.
