Any guesses who might realistically be the replacement for Pompeo? The bEagle mentioned a couple of candidates who were nothing to get excited about.
While the CIA might gain a very qualified and appropriate leader, the Wichita area district loses the same. While I differ with Mike on some of his takes on surveillance and data gathering, I am in-line with many of his positions elsewhere. I've always appreciated his professionalism and tact, which is hard to find in a politician, and you can't beat the guy's education and service history.

I wonder if it would be okay if I didn't support the choice of Reince Priebus for WHCOS?
I don't really understand why this guy should be his right hand man in the White House.
Is that acceptable, or does that need correcting as well? Just let me know what it's okay to think. Thank you.

But if you actively support Sessions, then I am fully within my rights to tell you my disgust for the man and the pick. You haven't committed thought crime, and maybe you like him just because he is hardline anti-immigration, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-abortion which are all normal positions for an Alabaman Senator to have. But I'm telling you that even if he ticks all those boxes, there are FAR better candidates. Candidates not determined by GOP level Senates to be too racist to serve as a federal judge, candidates that weren't giant Trump yes-men.

1. He is getting this job solely because he was the first Senator to endorse Trump
Ever hear of the spoils system? If not, find a US History textbook and turn to the section covering 1829-1880. A spoils system (also known as a patronage system) is a practice in which a political party, after winning an election, gives government jobs to its supporters, friends and relatives as a reward for working toward victory, and as an incentive to keep working for the party. It is opposed to a merit system. Each and every person that supported Trump for his anti-corruption talk should be furious that he is blatantly abusing his power to appoint.
2. He is a bona fide racist
I know calling people racist is more offensive now than being racist, but please hear me out. He was rejected in 1986 as a judicial appointment because of his many racist actions and abuses of power as a attorney in the southern district of Alabama. If you don't believe me, the hearing transcript can be found here. Some highlights:
I could continue for juicier allegations, but the bottom line is that in 1986 he was found unfit to serve. IMHO, he still is, and his record as a Senator shows someone that fundamentally lacks respect for civil rights, and states rights for those that care more about those issues.
He voted against a Senate amendment to a House bill that prohibited cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment or punishment of individuals in the custody or under the physical control of the United States Government. He opposes "any reform" of civil forfeiture legislation.
Sessions worked to deny funding to student Gay-Straight Alliances at Auburn University and The University of South Alabama, stating "an organization that professes to be comprised of homosexuals and/or lesbians may not receive state funding or use state-supported facilities to foster or promote those illegal, sexually deviate activities defined in the sodomy and sexual misconduct laws." He voted against the Matthew Shepard Act, which added acts of bias-motivated violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity to federal hate-crimes law, Sessions voted in favor of advancing the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2004 and 2006. Sessions voted against the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010.
Sessions has opposed immigration. Not illegal immigration, immigration.
This is a man whose views on civil rights belong 100 years in the past and were considered enough to block him from judicial appointment 30 years ago. If good people of Alabama want to keep electing him to the Senate they are within their rights, but the rest of the US should be appalled that this man will be the main legal advisor to the government.
And even if you support him because he shares your views, you should still be against this appointment simply on the basis of corruption. There are plenty of Pences and Sessions to chose from in the Republican, it is totally unnecessary to support Trump's appointment of his biggest yes-men on the basis of their support to him rather than their merit for the job.Originally posted by CBB_Fan View PostPriebus is sort of a middle finger to those that wanted all establishment types out, but he's qualified and capable of the position like Pompeo, Flynn, etc. No one should care too much about such mundane picks and ultimately stances for or against these picks are of relatively little consequence.

I think Mike Pompeo is a good selection as CIA Director. Not wild about Jeff Sessions having any role in the cabinet. I would liked to have seen someone like Preet Bharara appointed as attorney general. He seems like a real tiger who goes where the law and the facts take him. But I realize Trump may not want someone he might not be able to control in his cabinet. It appears that the "Drain the Swamp" slogan was just another meaningless political sound bite. There is a lot of swamp to drain but the Justice Department is one of the stinkiest.
