The FBI has reopened its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server while secretary of state after discovering new emails – apparently during the probe of former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s sexting – in a stunning turn of events just days before the presidential election.

There probably won't be any details or decisions prior to the election but this certainly casts enough of a shadow over the Clinton candidacy to boost Trump. If the FBI had done their job fairly, impartially and competently in the first place we wouldn't be here. So we do have an election where one of the candidates is under FBI invesigation.

The sad thing is that IMHO the big scandal is in the influence peddling pay-to-play corruption involving the Clintons, the Clinton Foudnation and the Clinton State Department. Not that the Hillary's deliberate mishandlng of her State Department communications isn't a big issue.

      • Comey was quoted as saying the FBI "cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant". Somebody in the FBI apparently has made an assessment that the material is significant enough to re-open the investigation.

Now if Comey comes out next week and says they have looked at this and their is nothing there than you have to wonder if the this whole thing isn't a ploy to discount the information coming out of Wikileaks.

                      • Various media outlets, including he Washington Post, have reported that a law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the e-mails related to the FBI re-opening the Clinton e-mail investigation are "numerous" and were not related to recent hacks of Democratic Party sources or to e-mails that have been released by WikiLeaks.

Hard to say what it these e-mails contain but obviously there was enough of a smoking gun there to cause Jim Comey to take what seems to be an unprecedented and controversial action.

Reports are that Comey has faced intense pressure and disharmony from inside the FBI ever since he issued his she's guilty, but we're not goint to recommend charges in July.

He was kind of in a no win situation here. If had sat on this information until after the election he would be under withering attack from the right and by issuing this announcement today he will no doubt be attacked by the left.

How this will impact the presidential election is anyone's guess at this point although as of right now it clearly helps Trump and hurts Clinton althouhg to what degree is hard to say. Could suppress Democrat voter turnout I suppose.

                            Maybe.

Wouldn't that be ironic. Weiner Screws Hillary.

                              • Bernstein: FBI Would Not Reopen Case Unless New Evidence Was "A Real Bombshell"

Right now we're all talking in a vacuum but I want to add here that in the last, oh, 36, 48 hours, there has been an undercurrent of kind of speculative discussion among some national security people that something might surface in the next few days about e-mails, and I think the expectation in this chatter -- and I took it as just chatter but informed chatter, to some extent -- was that it would relate to another round of WikiLeaks e-mails, which our Justice Department people seem to be saying is not the case, but there has been some noise in the national security community the last day or two of this kind of possibility of some kind of revelation.
