  • It's not an activist judge, come on. He was a Trump appointee. His hands were tied by existing precedent.

This is just the law. It is good law that journalists be given notice, opportunity to rebut, and a written decision when press passes are denied or revoked. That is the due process that is required. Maybe Trump would've even had sufficient grounds to deny Acosta a press pass. In my personal opinion, I think probably not. But the administration undoubtedly did not follow the proper protocol to deny him one.

jdshock, it already exists. I guarantee if, as a journalist, I show up and keep interrupting the president during his delivery, I will be escorted out and my press pass taken so that I cannot reenter.

Further, I can ALREADY effectively deny a press pass by never showing up in that room again. And then meet with whoever I want in a an alternative private room. A press pass is a privilege, not a right. That ruling you posted has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

Kung Wu - where is your evidence? What is your basis for believing your hypothetical person can have the press passed revoked without due process?

It's not like we're saying due process is some crazy obstacle here. It's literally putting the basis in writing and giving them a chance to rebut. Your hypothetical person would be afforded the same rights. If you think I'm wrong, show me the evidence.

You're just wrong about not meeting in that room. I saw literally no one who was surprised about the outcome this week, even though it was a Trump appointee. I dunno what else you want from me, though. I showed my evidence and now you're just saying your common sense suggests the president should be able to deny whoever he wants.

The ruling you posted contains the evidence.

  • I’m glad the left has rediscovered the concept of due process again with the Acosta dust up. Was worried about them there for... oh... ‘bout the last six weeks or so.

Can I assume they still “trust women” as well?

What due process rights were violated during the Kavanaugh process? You keep saying this. It wasn't a criminal trial, so there is no requirement that someone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He was given a chance to be heard. If he had any rights, that's probably the extent of what needed to happen.

Your sarcastic jabs don't add to the discussion. Everyone should just lighten up a little. We're not saving the world in here. We're in a political subforum of a primarily basketball related forum. But the state of politics has pretty much precluded civil discussion on many, many issues for the last decade. It's nice when this forum sometimes engages in civil discussion on these topics.

You might think your jabs are funny, but they're shallow and unproductive.

Ah ha ha ha! Trump just made 50 million Americans roll on the floor laughing. The week is off to a great start!

Life as a Republican used to be a continual effort to suppress emotions boiling just under the surface due to the incomprehensible actions of the Left. Now we've got a guy in the White House that says EXACTLY what we are all feeling. A cathartic Utopia indeed.

        • https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/20/polit...ons/index.html Judge blocks Trump administration from denying asylum claims to immigrants who cross border illegally

In an order laced with language accusing President Donald Trump of attempting to rewrite immigration laws, a federal judge based in San Francisco temporarily blocked the government late Monday night from denying asylum to those crossing over the southern border between ports of entry.

"Whatever the scope of the President's authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden," Tigar wrote, adding that asylum seekers would be put at "increased risk of violence and other harms at the border" if the administration's rule is allowed to go into effect.
So we've got another "acting president of the United States" operating out of Libtard Central, that failed Socialism disaster zone previously called San Francisco, dictating that if we don't allow immigrants to enter the country illegally, we are threatening their safety. What about the safety of the American people you latte sipping, avocado toast eating mother****er.

We have got to find a way to stop this federal judge activism. This was never the intent of the founders. It's absolutely ridiculous. A duly elected American president cannot issue an Executive Order stating that immigrants attempting to cross the border illegally is illegal? And this retard judge thinks that sending them back to Mexico will further endanger them? There's a REASON they are attempting to cross the border illegally you ****ing simpleton.

In general, I agree, but isn't this the kind of thing that Executive Orders were designed for? The asylum law still applies, the EO is a directive to clarify that those seeking asylum can't illegally enter the country while their claim is being reviewed (they have to enter through a port of entry which is consistent with the existing asylum law). I believe SCOTUS has already ruled that POTUS has broad authority to limit or even halt the entry of people coming into the country. I can't imagine how this federal judge's ruling would be upheld.

          • On Sunday, hundreds of would-be illegal immigrants gathered at the U.S. border to make a massive contribution to the Trump 2020 re-election campaign. They chanted that they weren't bound by the idea of borders and laws ("We are not criminals! We are international workers!"). They hurled rocks at U.S. Border Patrol agents. They rushed the border itself, cutting holes in fencing and climbing walls. They forced authorities to use tear gas to protect themselves and turn back the mob. The San Ysidro Port of Entry was forced to close for more than five hours.

In other words, they confirmed what President Trump has been saying for weeks about the caravan and what it represents. And, like clockwork, the president's progressive opponents have been answering his extreme rhetoric with their own.

The video of crowds of caravan participants pushing their way through border fencing or throwing rocks at uniformed Americans is disturbing. Even more disturbing is the fact that the caravan's participants and organizers (like the subtly-named group "People Without Borders") have been telegraphing their plans for weeks. Weeks ago, while media outlets criticized President Trump over the caravan issue and insisting that it posed no threat, actual participants were looking into TV cameras and announcing their intention to cross the U.S. border — no matter what.

And now they've tried to do just that. The situation is so bad that Mexico's interior department announced Sunday it will deport around 500 migrants because they ignored Mexican authorities and tried to cross the border "violently" and illegally." Does it now seem so ludicrous to put a few thousand American soldiers at that border?

The American Left still thinks so.

Tear gas seems like a reasonable police response a rock-throwing mob trying to rush the U.S. border. But Democrats and their media allies immediately tried to portray the U.S. Border Patrol as over-reacting….or worse.

"Why tear gas? Is this consistent with the Conventions on Chemical Weapons?" asked U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, in a tweet he later deleted. "WHO GAVE THE ORDER?" he demanded in all caps.

Soon-to-be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted "Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn't a crime," and comparing the people who rushed the border to "Jewish families fleeing Germany" during the Hitler era.

Progressive activist and CNN regular Symone Sanders declared: "The U.S. government is attacking asylum seekers."

Actually…no. Seeking asylum doesn't involve throwing rocks or climbing fences or rushing border stations. And Central America isn't Hitler's Germany or even Assad's Syria. If everyone who lives in poverty and under a dysfunctional government were entitled to asylum in the U.S., our borders would be open to about a billion people.

And if Trump is Hitler for using tear gas at the border, who was President Obama when his Border Patrol took similar actions in 2013?
A truly glorious article as full of vindication as it is devoid of bias hosted on CBS' servers no less... what a wacky Cyber Monday!

But just in case you fear the world has turned upside down, 99% of the rest of the MSM coverage features a photo of a child running with an adult fleeing tear gas. They are all sharing the same photo lol. They got The Shot they've been praying for since the "fake caravan" story started circulating. Pulitzer time!!!11111

And yet, the reality is it's quite possible he just quoted the last number he was told the first time. Then when it got posted someone in the know updated him with a newer estimate, so that's what he posted the second time.

That's actually a pretty fair synopsis of his entire Presidency, and an example of the perjury trap that Mueller is likely springing on witnesses.

Nothing more than an attempt at humor on my part.

I don't think it's a "lie," but I do think it's probably just him being misinformed. The numbers that have been released don't suggest it could be that high, and that's without even considering the $40+ million in asset forfeiture that was gained through the Manafort deal. Definitely a fair synopsis of his entire presidency, though.

            • The price tag for the investigation was quoted as nearly $30 million by liberal rags at the start of September. That number was likely lagging. Considering we are now nearing December with Mueller and his angry bunch ramping up their efforts, it's no far cry to imagine that we are past 30 and nearing 40.

I'm sure it's money well spent though as the Witch Hunt has served to sooth the Liberal Snowflake Left enough to where they don't burn any cities down in preparation for the impending "Russian invasion". This would have cost way more than 40 mil. Unfortunately for them, this whole charade will be ending soon and there will be nothing to show for it except for legal process crimes; i.e., perjury traps.

None of the indictments so far should be called a perjury trap, anyway. The closest would be Cohen's newest guilty plea which is for lying directly to Congress, and it's not even close to a "trap" by any stretch of the imagination.

No doubt. What the Dems have done with the RUSSIA COLLUSION scheme makes the Republican born Monica-gate look like amateur hour in comparison. The Dems were willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater on their crusade. It makes sense though, with Trump's ultra-conservative presidency followed up with a nice bunch of SOTUS appointments, the Left is beside itself. Unfortunately it's too little too late. Trump's "damage" has already occurred and all we're left with is the most deeply divided country in history. I blame the Liberal media/Democratic party collusion for nearly everything. Trump wouldn't be such an ass if he hadn't been attacked 3,942 times a day since the inception of his presidency. He actually might have ended up a fairly liberal "Republican" president. But the 'Tards on the left have driven him into a "warlike" posture. He wants to kill 'em all now - personally, politically, etc.
