Originally posted by Kung Wu View PostI read it, and you spun it out of context and misfired on your nasty response to @shock, citing completely irrelevant Texas issues and trying to somehow tie that to Brownback's stance on voter ID. You did that stating that @shock and/or the OP (it wasn't clear -- you used "your comments" when talking to @shock, but @shock didn't make any comments) didn't have his facts straight. What the OP posted is: If you have an iPhone, then you can afford a drivers license every 6 years. And that's 99.9999% correct. For the one out of 100,000 that CAN'T afford an iPhone, the law that Brownback signed, has a free path to obtaining a valid ID. You're the one that started quoting Texas issues -- completely out of context -- in an attempt to slam Brownback's stance on voter ID. And failed.
Very simple facts:
@shock posted a letter that clearly makes the argument that people can afford the SMALL fees for photo ID because of how SMALL they are.
@shocka khan was very clear that although fees may be small, fees are still fees, and using the Texas example for reference, showed that fees have been proven unconstitutional because they are a poll tax.
Brownback's exemptions to the fees are relevant to the political debate, but they were not at all a part of the original letter or @shocka khan's response to it. The letter argued that fees would be ok since they would be small. That line of thinking leads to the conclusion that exemptions would be unnecessary, and that was what @shocka khan was arguing against.
I expect better of you @Kung Wu. Now @WuDrWu, I'm not at all surprised that he would join in and slam someone for making a logical statement. I've seen him play that game numerous times.
(Note: I have taken no position on the actual political issue being discussed here. I'm simply pointing out that there are some very false accusations being thrown around between shockernetters. This thread is a perfect example of why political discussions often turned heated without accomplishing anything. People are unable to accurately comprehend what was actually said, and instead start responding to what they "heard" the other person say, which is often quite different than what was actually said.)Last edited by Jamar Howard 4 President; March 10, 2015, 03:11 PM.

You can afford it and that makes it ok = it is ok for the government to set a price for voting as long as the price is cheap = it is ok to have a poll tax
It couldn't be much simpler.Last edited by Jamar Howard 4 President; March 10, 2015, 08:28 PM.

And no, I don't slam people for different opinions. I "slam" people, if that is what you want to call it, for being absolutely brain dead, such as your last response to me.
KS Identification Card Fees
If you are a U.S. citizen, your Kansas ID card will be valid for 6 years. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, your Kansas ID card will be valid for as long as you are legally able to stay in the U.S. If you do not have a definite end date to your stay, your KS ID card will be valid for 1 year at a time.
To apply for or renew a KS identification card, it will cost you:- $14 if you’re under 65 years old.
- $10 if you’re 65 years old or older.
- $10 if you’re disabled.
If you are a registered voter in Kansas and don’t have a valid form of photo identification, you may be eligible for a free KS ID card. See the section below on “Voting With Your Kansas ID” for more information.
Voting With Your Kansas ID
A Kansas identification card can be used as valid photo identification when voting.
Once you have your Kansas ID card, you can register to vote online via the DOR Online Voter Registration Application. For more information, visit our page on Voter Registration in Kansas.
Qualify for a Free KS ID Card
If you are already registered to vote in Kansas, but do not have a valid photo ID (e.g., passport, driver’s license, or student ID card), you may be eligible for a free KS ID card.
You must apply as normal for a KS identification card (see the “Apply for a Kansas ID Card” section above) and also bring:- A completed Certification Requesting Fee Waiver for Nondriver Identification Card(Form DE-VID1).
- Proof that you’re registered to vote in Kansas.
- I have a disabled brother in law and sister in law, and both of them have obtained free IDs to be able to vote. You were saying something about a poll tax?

I also would like to know why you are such a racist and support voter identification laws. Don’t you realize how difficult it is to get a drivers license? It costs a whole 26 dollars. How on earth can people afford their monthly iPhone bills if they must spend $26 every six years?People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

JH4P and shocka khan's point is that poll taxes are bad. You are saying they aren't bad if they don't cost that much.

The OP states that "Drivers Licenses" are cheap relative to an iPhone. DRIVERS LICENSES, not fees, are something that 99.9999% of the voting population is GOING TO ALREADY HAVE PURCHASED WHETHER THEY VOTE OR NOT. If you are one of the 0.0001% of Kansans that wish to vote that do not already own a driver's license, then you can purchase an alternate state ID, or if you can't afford one, one will be given to you FREE.
All of this makes koo koo's original comments regarding whatever happened in Texas regarding some stupid poll tax argument to be ENTIRELY worthless and IRRELEVANT as regards BROWNBACK which is the ENTIRE CONTEXT of this thread. And it is PRECISELY that context that you have completely missed and/or avoided.
Here let me recap for everyone: The OP states sarcastically that driver's licenses are cheap, so stop bitching about them. Koo koo implied ... "Brownback signed a poll tax! I embarrassed you!" Kung Wu says, "not a poll tax in Kansas, koo koo -- Brownback made sure of that." Koo koo says, "you didn't read it because you didn't hit the quote button." WuDrWu says, "that doesn't even make sense ... about not quoting it therefore you didn't read it." Koo koo says, "liar!" (again making ZERO sense) Jamar says, "I expect more out of Kung Wu" Kung Wu says, "By definition, you can't improve perfection." Koo koo says, "This vodka is yummy!" Jamar ALWAYS gets the last word ... so here it comes ...Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!
