We’re going to be gifted with a healthcare plan we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don’t, which puportedly covers at least 10 million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn’t understand it, passed by a congress that didn’t read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a president who smokes, with funding (laughing & applause) same sentence – with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted social security and medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and and financed by a country that’s broke.

And why does anyone care what someone from Australia thinks about our health care? I can't wait for your next in depth and scathing report from Iceland about how Americans have it all wrong.

Turns out most everybody likes their health insurance ... until they get severely sick.

Got some serious question for you @kcshocker11:, because I have never been sick abroad. When you get sick abroad do you present your own health insurance card to the hospital, or do you just walk in and pay a flat fee, or do you get some foreign insurance card somehow?

Also, when you went to a medical facility in the foreign country, did you and your friends go to a private sector hospital or state owned hospital? What would the difference have been in terms of being allowed?

Australia, went Docs office $20 Aussie dollars fee, no card. France broke my arm- treated for 20% co-pay which was re-imbured by my US insurance(probably wouldnt be re-imbured today since my deductable is higher and what my insurance covers is less). Co pay was 16 euros, would have been $0 if I had one of their Healthcare cards. England went to the Doc, I had travel insurance and was covered . If I had no insurance, not being a UK citizen or one of its reciprocal countries I must pay(keep in mind costs are cheaper there). If UK citizen -no cost.

Went to hospital in France didnt know if it was state or not.

Wu da Nord would be more informative since he is currently living over there.

One thing that always struck me, when I ask about healthcare, they would wonder why I ask. In those countries it no a issue. You get sick you get treated. They would ask me how it is done in the US, Id tell them and they would say things like, I wouldnt want that, or why do they do that way? Unlike us its not a major issue over there and they cant imagine our way of doing things.
