I think Barack Hussein does own this...in fact it may have been the convention grand standing on the killing of Usama Bin Laden that lead to this act. Stupid to celebrate this event on a national stage a week before 9/11? Really? While I'm glad Bin Laden is gone, taking a life, any life, is nothing to celebrate. We did what we had to do to protect ourselves...there is no reason to celebrate.

Will Romney's Foreign-Policy Fumble Doom His Campaign?

Will Mitt Romney look back on this day as the blunder that doomed his campaign?

It's too soon to tell, of course. But the reaction to his recent foreign-policy moves has been overwhelmingly negative, from Republicans and Democrats alike, to the point that some wonder whether it could begin to disqualify him in voters' minds.

Romney's response to the incidents of the last 24 hours -- the storming of the American embassy in Cairo and the killing of the American ambassador and three others in Libya -- is widely being regarded as hasty and ham-handed. From his initial statement late Tuesday, which accused the Obama Administration of "sympathiz[ing] with those who waged the attacks," to his Wednesday morning press conference reinforcing that criticism, Romney, critics say, appeared overly eager to turn the tragedy into a political wedge, and insufficiently respectful of the gravity of the situation.

"I think it's a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values," Romney said at a news conference in Jacksonville, some 12 hours after his initial statement. (Here's a useful chronology of the various events and statements.) "When our grounds are being attacked and being breached, the first response of the United States must be outrage at the breach of the sovereignty of our nation."

As Romney himself noted moments later, this is a presidential campaign, and everything is fair game, especially when events provide the candidates with opportunities to air their honest differences in ways that can be illuminating to the electorate. But his comments struck a sour note in light of the fact that the Egyptian embassy's statement condemning those who would attempt "to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims" had long since been disavowed by the administration.

Who the hell wrote that piece, Michelle Hussein Obama or David Axelhog? Has anyone heard the audio yet of the reporters conspriring about what questions to ask Mitt Romney today prior to his press conference to make him look bad? Is it any surprise?

Probably according to the extreme right, but you don't hear many Republicans saying anything at all.

Hill GOP leaves Romney out on limb on Libya

Senior Republicans on Capitol Hill are leaving GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney out on a limb after he criticized President Barack Obama’s “disgraceful” handling of the assault on the U.S. embassy in Libya, which led to the death of U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens.
While Romney was very critical of Obama in a morning statement on the Libya attacks, senior Republicans across the board avoided criticizing the administration shortly after Stevens’ death was announced.
Obama didn’t even get a mention in most GOP press statements blasted Wednesday morning.
Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also declined to invoke Obama, signaling that for a second day in a row this was a time for Americans to come together and put election-year politics on hold.
Three of the most important voices on foreign policy — Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) — said they were “anguished and outraged” by the deaths of American diplomats, and considered Stevens a “friend.” But they, too, didn’t see fit to criticize the president the way Romney did.

All I can say to that is thank God McCain, Graham or Lieberman isn't the Republican candidate for the Presidency. They are experts? It's time to lead, not apologize.

I don't get it. Is Romney running for president against the embassy staff in Cairo?

In your case Putin hypothetical, if the Russian government thought we did not due our due diligence in providing protection - I could see them feeling justified. There are some very good novels written on just subject.
I believe you might be referring to the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand which started WWI. Yes, I follow history. And to me that hardly qualifies as "less" than what happened this morning. But I see your point. I don't agree with it, however, because I would hope our domestic right-wing warmongers have the sense and enough restraint to not use this as an excuse to clean Libya's proverbial clock. I would also not agree that I would feel Russia is justified in my hypothetical situation. That is absolutely absurd. War should ALWAYS be a very last resort to solve conflicts.

Thanks, and I appreciate the text from the statement. I didn't have time today to search endlessly for this. I have to admit though, I have apologized to my non-Christian friends for Westboro Baptist Church.

"A timeline of the events suggests Romney was wrong in his accusation that the Obama administration's "first response" on Tuesday was one of sympathy for those who started the violence itself–as the violence came after the first statement was published."

The statement on the Cairo Embassy's Twitter in part
"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. ... Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

You mean you actually believe that these democrats you mentioned are actually part of the "new conservatives".

You tell me. They must be (at least closet neocons) because they jumped on the "excuse" to give to President Bush to invade Iraq - right? Or are they just non-principled politicians who were afraid to stand on their own weak convictions?

This is now reason 327,893 why this miserable excuse for a President, all of his ass-hat, know nothing, no life experience in the real world cronies and advisors need to be sent packing in stellar fashion. This administration's experience is a constant amateur hour that is combined with what seems to be a slow, simmering hatred of American values and the constant apologizing for the fact that America doesn't suck and are the best nation on Earth has reached it zenith.

This is what happens when you put thinkers, and not "do"-ers in charge of running the show.
