  • POLL: Guess the Healthcare Outcome!

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Hurry and get your vote in!

There are four likely outcomes that I found in an article:

    1) The law is upheld without any changes.

    2) The mandate to buy insurance is stricken down but health insurers are required to cover people regardless of medical condition; much of the rest of the law remains.

    3) Both the mandate and laws requiring health insurers to accept people regardless of their medical condition are stricken; much of the rest of the law remains.

    4) The law is stricken in it's entirety.
    20
    Law upheld in entirety.
    25.00%
    5
Mandate fails but requirement to cover people upheld, most of remaining law upheld
    25.00%
    5
Mandate and requirement to cover people both fail, most of remaining law upheld
    25.00%
    5
    Struck down in its entirety
    25.00%
    5

    The poll is expired.

I heard Chief Justice Roberts is writing the majority opinion. Would have been happier if it was Scalia. Makes this person think some things are going to be shot down while others remain.

While we're at it, replacing the President is key to restoring a Constitutional Court. Ginsburg, Kennedy and Scalia are all going to be replaced by the next President, and if it's Obama, the future is hopeless with more horrible nominees like Sotomayor and Kagan. 2 of those 3 need to be chosen by a Conservative, and unfortunately, Mitt Romney is as good as it's going to get.

President Reagan has to be turning over in his grave over the evolution of Justice Kennedy.

Can they be replaced or do they have to retire? I thought it was a lifetime appointment.

They have to retire, or die, which I guess is a form of retirement. I was simply speculating that, based on their age, it is likely they won't remain on the court for another full term Presidency. Scalia is 76 and not in fantastic health by some reports. Kennedy will be 76 next month. Ginsburg is 79, has had 2 bouts with cancer, lost her husband and is a total whackjob. Why Scalia befriends her speaks to Antonin's good heart more than his sound mind.

Regardless of how brilliant one may be, and while not out of the question, it's unlikely to remain at a level of sharpness needed to serve the highest court in the free world beyond the age of 80, imho. And trust me, I LOVE old people. I hope all the Justices live as long as they care to....they just shouldn't serve forever.

No matter what, unless it's upheld in entirety or shot down in entirety, BOTH sides will be declaring victory, which is silly. The only winners if ANY of it is upheld are the socialists. Death by 1,000 cuts, and this one will need a tourniquet.

For what it's worth, regardless of whether you are Democrat or Republican, this is generally considered the worst case scenario. It will cause insurance costs to skyrocket because people will simply not pay premiums until they are sick which means the system is broken from day one.

And perhaps exactly what the Socialists have been hoping for all along, further paving the path to a single source payer system. Just a thought.

Regardless of today's outcome, this American will not be happy.

                      Indeed. Interesting times, my friend.

It's funny looking at the votes on this poll...confirms what I already knew, the Republican dominated Politics board on Shockernet really has no clue what's going on....just blah blah blah Obama BAD blah blah blah. Considering more than half of the Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Republicans, should tell you something.

The question is what do you think will happen, not what you want to happen. You never truly know with the SC. They've made some head scratching decisions in the past.

I don't see any way that the mandate can be upheld and found to be constitutional. I've heard the arguments on both sides and I still don't see it. I'm also not sure how insurance companies can be told to cover everybody for everything. But it could end up getting through and cause prices to skyrocket. Especially if the mandate is struck down. Without both of those, I don't think ObamaCare can really stand up as a whole because everything else is pretty much based upon those two things being involved.

There are still better ways to fix healthcare and keep costs from blowing up.

Only one result will make me semi-happy. And I'm not sure it happens.

Court upheld it and basically said that the health care mandate amounted as a tax and therefore was constitutional. Reading the opinion - I agree with the supreme court. This is something the people need to decide decide not the courts.

Moral is elections have consequences - good, bad or indifferent. If u don't like the way your country is to going (or if u do) then you should get out and vote - most Americans don't, but they they want to sit around and whine and complain.

In that case, I hope the republicans win enough seats and the Presidency and get rid of this piece of **** law.
