If it is on the Internet it must be true. For some reason your link won’t work; but I believe that is what I read. However, a few days ago there was no disclaimer from the administrator.

Notwithstanding, the list of demands (which is quite long) seemed representative of what I have seen. The funny thing is they appear to be running a commune more than a protest. They have established a small communitarian village, which is punctuated by a small cabal of the angry, the insane, and the ignorant. Nothing I have seen is representative of a serious movement, and even less is indicative of any substantive thought. Within twenty yards, I saw, often self-contradictory, signs against nuclear weapons, tax loopholes, the tea party, cuts to government spending, and the bailout; and for the legalization of drugs, high-speed rail, free college education, redistribution of wealth, and confiscatory taxation. It is telling that the most coherent signs in the park are the ones advertising the table offering free quiche and lentils.

So when we strip that post of the obfuscation its that you read a list that is not representative of the "group" occupying wall street. Correct?

I didn’t find the post you linked confusing – I found it many things but I was not confused. Amused is probably more accurate. If you found my post confusing – then “strip" it down - for I suspect I may have made the wrong impression.

These people occupy a park directly adjacent to my work place. I walk by them at least twice a day. I feel sorry for the street vendors and restaurants – these people in the park have no shame – I can be amused at their inherent hypocrisy…..but they are depriving these vendors of work, hurting the taxpayer in NY (because someone has to clean up after them – and they are not clean), and they hurt business in an area which doesn’t need anymore “drama”.

As for their demands – follow your own advice. If it is on the Internet – it may not be true.

What's your general impression of what they are doing? Is it protesting for protesting's sake or is it something (albeit totally misguided) that there is real belief in?

Just curious what things look like from the front lines.

Very little but I not would describe your hypothetical as odd. But that is not the point, is it? Is it? You are better than than this Ixiah (at least based on what I have read over time).

What are they doing? To put it charitably they are not "doing" a lot......

As for what they believe in...I don't think they know, in fact I know they don't know. As for me, I can't avoid them now - you see I am used to solicitations, by some ernest 20ish something with a clip board asking me, with a certain degree of grace: "To you have a moment for the environment?"; "Do you care about whales?": Can you spare a second to discuss the horrors of nuclear energy?" I tell myself, each time, at least they had manners.

As for what this crowd wants, what this mass believes in? Heck if I know - but what I do know, if I should I actually try to find out - I would find myself more confused. Just a gut feeling.

Don't pretend you have any idea who these people are in NY. They are not open to your message, they are not open to any message - beyond what they have "learned".

Summary:

My initial post was a mild criticism of how badly our government seems to be running things. Essentially a "throw the bums out" which WuDrWu seems to share the same sentiment.

Next couple of posts was merely disputing a statement you made on demands made by the demonstrators. You have agreed with me that none exist at this time.

I have already stated I did not endorse anything they are protesting over.

Then you made the statement about the protest being odd. My point in my last post was people protest over everything so what is odd about this one??

I see no "confusion" on this side. Perhaps you did not see that I did not endorse the protesters in the earlier post.

For the record, I don't know who these people are or what they are for, besides what they themselves are putting out there, which the link I posted uses. That's all.
