  • NYC Care - Healthcare for All New York City Residents

Here is a link to the article announcing it: https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loca...504046171.html

This will be very interesting to watch.

    Key points:

    1) It's for people that "can't afford" health care -- so not really health care for all.

    2) It is not insurance.

    3) Undocumented workers are included -- they estimate that number to be about 300,000.

    Questions I have are:

    1) Undocumented workers -- how do they know whether the undocumented worker is a resident?

    2) Undocumented workers -- how do they know how many there are?

    3) Are all undocumented workers eligible or just the "ones that can't afford it" like the New Yorkers that are "documented"?

    4) How will they decide who can or cannot afford health care? (I assume this just results in a number being published?)

    5) If it's not insurance, how does this work?

    6) Will all doctors in NYC be compelled to take NYC Care patients?

    Typical white privilege spin.

And I'm sorry, common sense isn't allowed when we talk about fairness, equality and government.

It's been a topic lately with L. Graham. Very encouraging (can't run from it)...

I'm sure it will work wonderously. New Yorkers are the smartest, selfless people on the planet.

        More data points rolling in:

Expected to serve 600,000 people, half of which are undocumented workers.

The budget is set for $100 million.

Currently NYC pays $8 billion to cover 1.1 million people in it's New York City Health + Hospitals program.

They are thinking instead of paying $7,272 per person, by getting them to use regular doctors instead of emergency rooms, it will only cost $170 per person (the equivalent of a single doctor visit in New York).

Trying to make a purse out of a sow's ear. The only problem with their strategy is, illegal Hispanics are tough SOB's and generally only visit the doctor when they are half-dead requiring critical medical care. This won't be as successful as they hope. It will help with the children's medical needs though. It's not uncommon for Wichita hospitals to see undocumented children for colds, earaches, etc.

If this is totally free it will serve to incentivize irresponsible behavior. They will essentially be reprogramming hard-working, proud, independent people to start adopting a welfare state mentality - African American Dilemma 2.0.

Why not create a giant group plan specifically for the entire illegal NYC population and allow them all to sign up at the start under open enrollment conditions. Premiums for the insurance will be on a sliding scale based on recent paycheck stubs not to exceed a certain amount. It will be a hospitalization policy with generous copays for preventative care; i.e, doctor visits, cancer and cardiovascular screenings, etc. There will also be a rider for children which will offer additional services for an additional premium.

If you sign up for this insurance you will have access to Tier 1 care with the doctor you choose for everything from broken bones to catchin' cancer. If you forego the insurance option, you get... ummm... I don't know... deported?

Such a great idea of mine... "insurance" and "risk pooling". I can't believe nobody has thought of it before..............*sigh*

I’m thinking that they are planning one doctor visit per person per year. That’s it.

no way nationalized healthcare will work when over 40% of american worlers dont pay federal income taxes. especially when the a large percentsge of the 40% not paying taxes is the largest drain on the health care system.. like cold says, its a risk pool system. to work effectively, health insurance needs ypung and healthy people in the pool paying over-priced premiums to subsidize the unhealthy that underpay amd overuse.

No way nationalized health care will work without individuals "having skin in the game". In other words, take responsibility for having a healthy life style and doing what they can to have a healthy body and mind. Obesity is a real problem in the US. Someone else should not be responsible for another's lack of reasonable care for their own body. Instead, being over weight is sugarcoated. I don't believe one should "body shame" another person, but I don't believe one should be responsible for the cost of their higher health care either. There are those that truly have heredity problems with weight. Some very few can do little about it, but most can. Then you have most people who have no excuse at all (I would be in the group).

You smoke, you get clean of it or prepare to pay. You do hazardous things, prepare to pay for it. I don't feel financially responsible for the person who breaks their arm sliding their skateboard sideways down an outdoor stair rail and fell (and I'm not talking about young kids here).

If one does not have to pay something, in some fashion or another, the less likely they are to appreciate what is being provided. Figure out how to handle these problems first, then get back to me about discussing national health care.

Heredity problems with weight is a myth. You eat less, you will lose weight. It's all a matter of self-discipline.

The current system offers none of the protections you want. Because republicans were too scared to cut pre-existing conditions coverage, people who smoke/skate/are obese all can choose to hop on and off an insurance plan as they see fit. I say it on here every single time the topic comes up, and no one has had a good answer. The current form of health insurance that was put in place by republicans is the worst form we could have. Premiums will sky rocket when there is no mandatory requirement to have health insurance but pre-existing conditions are covered.

All that said, there are about a dozen easy ways to implement your ideas in a single-payer system. They all involve the government becoming more involved in your life, so I imagine they don't sit well with you or most other anti-single-payer folks. But, for example, give tax credits to people who get an annual check-up that shows a clean bill of health. Add even higher taxes to cigarettes, tax sugar, etc. Add a point of sale tax to people who seek treatment but are morbidly obese. Those are three ideas that took less than a minute to think up. I'm confident greater minds than mine could come up with something even better if given a year.

I don't really care Republican/Democrat. Both sides are out for votes. The government is already meddling in my life. Both sides need to buck up and figure something out before it's a complete train wreck. A good start (before we discuss national health care) is who should receive it. Non-US citizens? Close boarders first? We need to admit that we must be able to care for US citizens first and foremost on any kind of health care, before ever including others (if ever). We have to make sure whatever program we try is given it's best opportunity to be successful. Adding others than US citizens is an additional burden that may cause any plan to fail, and fail badly. All US citizens must feel, in one way or another, their share of responsibility to having legitimate health care.

                  Bingo!

It was more than enough to hear from obama "them jobs ain't comin' back," to a weary and uncertain middle-class, after having insulted that same group of "tax-payers" when they voiced their concern? Blame Fox my a**. Now free health care? Who's payin' for free health care? Tax credits? Yeah, right.

The only people who are for nationalized health care are the poor and the ignorant. Some of the middle-class who've supported 'BumCare have done so because the current medical system has been in a state of limbo and service availability is still similar to what we had prior to the Socialist power grab. If government run healthcare is allowed to be fully implemented, rationing will begin, innovation will diminish, and qualified doctors will become more scarce... but this will take time to occur. Once we are at that point it will be too late. Of course inquiring minds could just look to the disaster in Canada and Europe to find out what's in store for them, but the Liberal media has that information flow under wraps. You've literally got to talk to doctors face-to-face to hear the truth of what happens under nationalized medicine. Dr. Galichia has shocking stories for anyone that has been duped into believing Canada's system works. He actually volunteered in Canadian ER rooms and was rebuffed by the administrator when asked why they won't discharge stabilized patients as the waiting room is full. He was told if they discharge anyone they will have to let new patients in and that would put them over their mandated limit.

Canada has MANY inherent advantages over the U.S. when attempting to implement failed Socialist ideologies; namely, a tiny population relative to their natural resource revenue. As bad as it is in Canada, it would be 5x worse in America. Plus, if we nationalize healthcare, where will the Canadians run to for critical care when they're facing a 3-month wait in their home country? I guess we'll all be going to Panama. This is where a lot of the cutting edge medical science is happening. Tons of U.S. doctors work in Panama for parts of the year. The great American innovative spirit is already preparing for the Social Apocalypse that is coming.

It's going to be a very sad day watching the destruction of America as the wealth and brains drain from our shores literally the moment the Ocasio-Cortez's take power. It's inevitable though. The youth of our day are completely ignorant and brain-washed. They are bound and determined to vote themselves a paycheck. Never forget 'Bummer's greatest quote: "Elections have consequences."

Immigrants are flocking to the United States to get AWAY from the exact style of government that Ocasio-Stalin is advocating. Yet liberals believe SHE is the one fighting FOR immigrants.
