I don't understand your expectations about ADES.

What did Schaus EVER say about football? And yet you want ES to address it. Here again, you standards aren't consistent.

You just seem not to have a good feeling about ADES and really you don't have anything specific to back that up. That's okay; sometimes gut feelings are right.

Whether or not Schaus addressed the football issue, it is clear that college athletics continues to focus more and more on football, as evidenced by the conference shake-ups that have occurred since Schaus left.

I agree with Veritas that football is an elephant in the room. Even the SGA has brought it up with their recent survey. Sexton is now our AD and it would be nice if he would at least make his current position on football at WSU public.

Silence in this case is not golden (or Sunflower Yellow).

One can look at San Diego State to see what would happen to our athletic program.

They have only six men's programs:

        basketball
        baseball
        football
        golf
        soccer
        tennis

To make up for the scholarship differences, they have a whopping 12 women's sports.

        basketball
        softball
        golf
        crew
        lacrosse
        swimming and diving
        cross country
        tennis
        track
        volleyball
        water polo
        soccer

may i ask why you arbitrarily picked sdsu as your comparison? everyone and their grandmother knows with football you end up with more women's teams. there isnt many schools out there that have the full compliment of men's and women's teams. even with 10 men's teams you end up with 15-18 women's teams.

or are we to look at the success of the individual teams at sdsu? i dont see how their situation would be similar to what wsu with football would be.

I picked SDSU b/c I was already looking up Steve Fisher's coaching record.

Also, I think we need to look at non-BCS schools. Clearly we can't compare to Ohio State, Nebraska etc.

Looking at Tulsa, there isn't a lot of difference.

            They have seven men's sports:
            • Basketball•Cross Country• Football• Golf• Soccer• Tennis• Track & Field

            They have nine women's sports:
            • Basketball• Cross Country• Golf• Rowing• Soccer• Softball• Tennis• Track & Field• Volleyball

WSU is generally having success with the programs we have. Though we could use improvement in Men's Tennis and softball for starters. I think adding football would make it much more difficult to have success in non-football sports except Men's basketball and possibly baseball.

WSU has only six men's sports now. If we add football, wouldn't something have to be dropped?

            Baseball
            Men's Basketball
            Cross Country
            Golf
            Tennis
            Track and Field

We have also have seven women's sports:

            Basketball
            Cross Country
            Golf
            Softball
            Tennis
            Track and Field
            Volleyball

Bowling is a club sport, not an NCAA sport.

What was Schaus' long term vision? Renovate Koch Arena? Was that it?

We've been dominating the All-MVC sports trophy lately - - without football.

Here's more info on WSU athletics than I remember ever getting from Schaus: http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/7500...ate_of_ath.pdf

I think we are getting close to a point of either bring football back or saying we simply aren't going to do it, and to double down on everything else: build an indoor track, improve all of the facilities, increase SASO funding and a thousand other things.

I also think Conference affiliation needs to be part of this discussion.
Renovating HLA/Koch Arena was/is much more than ADES has accomplished. Additionally, wasn't it ADJS that made most of the current hires and retained other coaches that were on the verge of leaving.

Do you really feel more comfortable with ADES than ADJS?

I'd feel much more comfortable with ADES if I knew what direction he wants to take WSU and perhaps a lot of that deals with the football question. The website you attached is very colorful and nicely put together. I like it, but it doesn't exactly address the black/gold elephant in the room. I expected more from ADES when he was hired.
Were my expectations too high? My vision of WSU athletics to lofty? My hopes for the son of a WSU athletic legend too swollen?

I do. I know both of them pretty well. JS top priority was his future. He was all about doing things that made him and his resume look better. He had no ties to Wichita State. We were just a job to him. One that he hoped to use to get a better job. Many times doing things to make him look better also helped WSU. But WSU was NOT his top priority. So he really didn't care about WSU's future.

Eric Sexton on the other hand is a SHOCKER. His dad was a WSU Football star, Eric played golf at WSU. Eric cares about WSU and our future. He is not interested in doing things to build his resume, he is interested in doing what is best for WSU.

But on the flip side, Schaus had to perform and perform well if he wanted to make a jump up in his career. Family - Shocker family, that is - guys can get comfortable and "safe".

Unless C. Koch and Garmin's G. Burrell donate 100 million each just to cover all the women's Title 9 sports and scholarships we have to come up with to bring football back, please let this horse die.
