Any possibility we eventually see the day where there is one set of conferences for the kingpin sports of football and men's basketball that can ignore travel cost issues (somewhat) due to revenue levels, and then all other sports at a university are in more regionally based conferences? Personally I doubt it, but it does have some logic in the cost area, especially for those schools outside the incredibly deep pockets.

Rumors are starting back up about Utah State and San Jose State to the MWC. Utah State turned down the MWC earlier in the conference realignment talks, but something must have changed.

MWC recently decided it has no current interest in Utah State of San Jose State.

Big 12-2 Basketball only school. It could work.

Allow them to have their 10 member football conference, then bring us and Creighton? in for basketball.

Dreaming is nice.

The WAC would be totally worthless to WSU. The MWC on the other hand would be a good move.

The option I like best though is this one (Big 12 + 2). I can dream too!
We could even join the Big 12 for baseball too.

I get UNI considering their recent and sustained success. SIU is in the tank right now and not looking like they'll come out any time soon. Plus, we have a lot more to offer in terms of finances and support than either of them. That'd be a fun conference though.

I think it would be a really good idea to hand pick teams to form a new conference recognized by the NCAA and receive an auto bid for the conference tourney winner. And make rules you have to follow to stay in the conference like....

1. Pick a mandatory rpi teams have to meet.
2. Basketball athletic budget must meet a certain dollar amount.
