For anyone who likes to watch or play poker...this year's World Series of Poker main event has a Wichita connection. Like him or hate him, Brandon Steven is still alive in the tournament. He's gone out and played the last 4 years or so and never made it past Day 2 I think. Today is the start of Day 7. Out of an original 7,319 entries, there are currently 78 left. He has 2,330,000 chips putting him currently in 33rd place. If he's the next person to go out he'll get almost $100k. Last night with around 130 people left he was in dead last place with very few chips, somehow he turned it around and came back. He has also spent quite a bit of time at ESPN's featured table, so I'm sure he'll have plenty of TV time when this all comes out on TV. Play starts back up today at 2:00 CST and they will play until there are 27 people left.

Can you say "Weasel" car dealer?
1. Any of various carnivorous mammals of the genus Mustela, having a long slender body, a long tail, short legs, and brownish fur that in many species turns white in winter.
2. A person regarded as sneaky or treacherous.Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Good news to report.....Johnny Lodden is still alive!
Not exactly a who's who of poker left.....I only recognize Johnny, Matt Affleck, Mike the Grinder and David Benyamine.
...edit, make that 16th place with 4.5 million in chips.
...edit, 11th place with 6 million chips. 56 people left.

Brandon is doing well and is certain to have some good ESPN moments.
He busted 2 players when his AK suited flopped the nut flush against KK and AJ and the KK couldn't fill the river.
He stands in 13th right now on the ESPN #2 table. 31 plays left, they'll play to 27 tonight.
Johnny Lodden is the short stack.

Definitely not a Steven fan, but I guess it's cool to see a Wichitan get some light.
From that hand Doc mentioned, here are some quotes others directed at Steven during it:
The flop was pretty sick for one of our three combatants. It came to flush the board and paint Steven's world red. He let out a beastly cheer and screamed, "Was that a sick flop or what?!?" A couple of the players didn't take too kindly to his celebration, and they rather impolitely reminded him that there were still two cards to come. "Don't celebrate too early," someone said.......
.....Driscoll is out 39th, and the last thing we heard him say as he left was, "You should gloat a little more after you win," in the direction of Steven.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Yeah I am pretty sure the "pros" didn't take too kindly to the nub celebration.
My guess is there are more than a few family members in attendance cheering for something they don't understand.
Brandon was in deep with his AK against KK that hand. He certainly sucked out.

Brandon finished the night in 17th place out of the last 27.
At 2 today they'll start playing down to the November 9. He's assured $317k at this point.
With all the support here on ShockerNet, Brandon, SASO will be expected a sizable contribution upon your return. :D

Back to poker...Sorry Doc, Johnny Lodden was first out today and only person out so far. Brandon took a 1,000,000+ chip hit and is currently in 18th with 4.8 million chips.

I'm sure if you got to know him and were considered one of his friends he would seem like a good guy. The problem he has is if you don't know him or aren't in his inner circle, you're treated like the gum on the bottom of his shoes.
Yeah but how much was he paid to be an excellent host? :DDeuces Valley.

He finally won a pot an has moved up to 14th...still a lot of work to do if he wants to make it to the final table.
EDIT: Not looking good now. Less than 2 million chips. Still a nice chuck of change to bring home and a once in a lifetime experience.
