  • Even if he does pitch like his 2009 season, with only one year left on his contract his value to potential trade partners diminishes. They would only get half the discounted value of his services.

No I realize it (I just don't believe it). I know they are suppose to have 5 of the top baseball prospects of the no-miss, impact, game changer type variety. I've heard it all before (but when gain perspective of a few years we find they were busts).

So lets just assume the hype is correct, this is the one of the top minor league organization (all the rankings I have seen give props to KC but don't list in the Top 5 or Top 10)- when will we see KC actually be in position to challenge for their division?

      This next coming year?

      2 years from now?

      5 years?

      • 2013 has been the target date for as long as I can remember. The new youth will start making appearances this coming season with more in '12. Will all of them be great? Probably not. But the odds are favorable for KC that some of them will be very good and others may just be average to above average. Some may never make it. But when there are this many options, it's hard not to feel good about the chances that there may be some fairly special players in the mix.

        • Add two more to that group of A/B+ level prospects via a Greinke trade. Then use salary savings from Greinke and Meche ($25 million) to shore up the talent and sign an impact major-leaguer or two.

That's the formula for a small-market team. My usual response to those who keep bringing up the past to proclaim the future will be a failure is that if you can't accept the realities of small-market baseball, find another team to follow.

I heard he was a FA. Doesn't surprise me that he's signed with KC. Relatively harmless deal to take a chance on a young outfielder who could provide a little pop.

              • I changed my mind . . . playoffs in 2011!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well. Someone has to play. I just think if Mitch Maier were to improve a little at the plate, he's a poor man's Frenchy with a little less arm.

With our without him, KC's outfield will be pitiful at the plate next year unless Gordon finally fulfills his promises and Dyson exceeds expectations.

I bet Royals Corner is in complete disaster. I should join just so I can laugh at ryansublett's dumb ass.

He man'd up and admitted he was wrong.

I pretty much ignored all of that talk over there so I really have no idea what ryansublett was saying.

There are plenty of dumb butts over at RC who talk like they are Bill James. Only a few are really credible., IMO.

I agree. I like that board because alot of the people there dont take thereselves to seriously.

1 year at 2.5 million is actually not bad considering we arent giving up anybody other than who Mitch maier?

                      • Source: One of #Marlins' attempted 3-team trades would have landed them Greinke. Talks still alive, but called "lukewarm.

3-team trade was with #Rangers and #Royals. Not sure other pieces. PB Post said Nolasco, Nunez involved in diff 3-team deal

Unfortunately, in baseball past failure is a predictor of future failure. Two biggest predictors of success is salary and previous winning pct.

Now a team can turn it fortunes around through good draft(s). There are studies that find a direct correlation with how many games a team will add in wins (or losses) based on the quality of their draft and it is fairly immediate (2-3 years after that draft). So if truly the Dayton Moore has turned around the farm system then the Royals should start seeing improvement now.

You can't really bash that deal. The Royals have to take chances on guys like this, and at $1.25 million it's really not that big of a risk. Hopefully he wants to earn a fat contract next year and will get his act together. Plus, he's only 26. Low risk, medium-high reward player.
