and i still stand by my statement back then and 8 games is doable, but the royals decided to go the wrong way. So be it, they suck. O well, them and the chiefs are still my team no matter what their record is, just like i loved shocker basketball back in the mid 90s.

Not really that much of a surprise. With Hochevar still out having missed at least 7 starts, Meche not coming back this season, DeJesus probably out for the year, and Callaspo and Podsednik traded for no real help for this year, an already weak team has been pretty much gutted.

It will most likely be a tough watch for Royal fans. Hopefully, they'll have a chance to see the (better?) future on the field later in the season.

It opens doors for Gordon to get a shot to prove he belongs. Kila should get a chance to play every day. Maier will get more ABs. We'll get to see if Getz can be servicable or not.

Hochevar and Meche have really hurt. The pen needs some work but there have been a few who've shown some ability. Most of us know that we're still probably two years away from really seeing things but the major league club struggling doesn't take away from the fact that Moore has been building the minors up and is potentially setting KC up for some success. It's the way the Twins and others have done it and I have no reason to believe that things can't work out as the seem committed to this unlike times in the past under Baird.

There appear to be some pitchers who may be ready to help next year. Mostly in the pen I think but good young arms who show a lot of promise. And there are more that are a couple years out. Odds are a few of them will actually reach their potential. Luckily, there are enough options that not all of them have to.

2012 is still the year to look to.

You're optimism is to be applauded, Sub. I, too, hope Kila gets a good shot. Getz, Maier, and Gordon are still young players, I'm just not sure you're ever going to get much more than what you're seeing now. It might have been unforunate that Gordon was rushed up to the bigs, but he may very well just be a very good AAA player and that's it. I hope I'm wrong.

As for 2012, the Royals had several holes/question marks at the start of this season. After some trades, they now have more to fill and going into next season Guillen is gone, Meche and Ankiel may have seen their better days, and Kendall, Bannister, and Davies are...well, what they are. By 2012, who else may be gone! The Royals are going to need not only strong rookies, but a good number of them coming together at the same time. As for the Twins, Mauer, Morneau, Young, and Liriano were all established big leaguers by age 22 and then, like the Twins, you have to be willing to hold on to some of them so you can fill the gaps on those you lose. We'll see, Sub. We'll see.

                  • There are a lot of question marks but there's a lot of talent in the system. And that's not just the thought of Royals fans but some of the "experts".

The Royals may have very well hurt Gordon by rushing him. I'm hoping that moving him off 3rd may ease some of the pressure but who knows. He may need a complete change of scenery. And 2012 may not be the season they make a big push but we should see if there is in fact progress.

I still think there's enough talent that holes should be filled. Possibilities for 2012/13 could be

                    1B - Butler, Ka'aihue, C. Robinson, Hosmer (OF)?,
                    2B - Getz, Giavotella
                    SS - Colon
                    3B - Moose
C - Pina, May, Myers (OF)?,
OF - Gordon, Dyson, Orlando, D. Robinson, Adams, DeJesus, Maier.

SP - Greinke, Hochevar, Montgomery, Lamb, Crow, Melville, Dwyer, Duffy, Paukovits, W. Smith, Sample
P - B. Hardy, Teaford, Soria, Bowden, Osuna, Paulino, Sisk, Keating, B. Wood

Some of the starting pitchers could turn into relievers. I don't know what they project all of them to be but these are the names I've been hearing about. I may have missed a couple as well. Same with other positions but for now, there's a chance.

Is that why Dayton was quoted a couple days ago saying he'd be up very soon? I don't get your hatred for him.

Dont hate dayton, well not yet anyways, although my patience is starting to run out. He better hope these minor league prospects turn out, or he needs to be out the door. I just think it stupid giving someone like Jose Gullien at bats over a young Kila, who's OBP is insane in Omaha. And i dont buy into the we are showcasing Gullien either, because nobody is going to trade for him with his salary and attitude.

                          • The only hope of trading Guillen is to let him play. As of yesterday there were 5 teams rumored to be interested in his services. I believe the Royals have offered to even pay his contract. Also, when was the last time anybody heard anything negative about Jose's attitude? He's been pretty damn good considering he's only been DHing and has said he thinks he can still play in the field and would like to. It would have been easy for him to make a big scene. I'm no Jose fan, but I can't complain about him other than the fact that he doesn't play a role in the future and needs to be moved. Kila being in KC with no everyday spot would be a bigger waste than him putting up great numbers in Omaha.

And Moore has said from the start it was going to take time. He's only had 3 drafts so we're still a couple years away from really seeing those results but it looks promising. I've really enjoyed following the minors the last couple years. If we had this kind of talent in the system when the team was in Wichita attendance would have been much better and I would have gone to a lot more games.

                            • I don't think you can blame Moore too much for Kila's situation. Granted, trading for Mike Jacobs before last season was a head-scratcher, but there was hope of contention and Kila had all of 12 major league at-bats.

Kila would have probably been up after the Pods trade if KC wasn't about to enter a crazy long stretch with no days off, prompting the call-up of another bullpen arm.

For the record, I expect Gordon to get traded in the offseason or released before June next year, unless there are just no other player options in Omaha. He has AAAA written all over him.

                              • Royal - I agree with you that Gordon is not destined to be a big league hitter. The good pitchers constantly pitch him away and he continually tries to pull the ball and the large majority of the time, he grounds out to second base and sometimes first. At this time, he refuses to make adjustments and go to left field.
