KU's funds are in fact very limited. They are at quite a disadvantage compared to several other Big 12 schools in regards to budgeting. With self pulling down 3 million a year and football probably barely in the black, they wipe their little cheating tushies with the same grade of toilet paper as the Shockers.
KU has admitted their financial disadvantage publicly. Perhaps it was only an excuse because it was brought up around the time when a WSU - KU matchup was getting a lot of press in Wichita. When discussing home, home, neutral scenarios, KU said they must play as many home games as possible because of the revenue involved and their struggle to maintain competitiveness (financially) in the Big 12 against the biggest schools. This was before the Orange Bowl success so perhaps they are in better shape now with football making a little bit more money (or is it?).
Shortly after that, ESPN contacted them with a WSU versus KU national T.V. game and KU politely refused. Perhaps it isn't about money at all? :)
