  • COLD blast with possible winter storm Coming.

Monday night into Tuesday of next week we will see our first real winter storm. Much of the area could possibly see their first accumulating snowfall of the season. The worst snowfall being in central Kansas. The NWS has already put in the "Snow Likely" for almost all of KICT forecast area. They even took it a step further by adding "Blowing Snow" to the forecast. Stay tuned because if the cold air can not get pushed back by the warm gulf air as much as the models are showing it being right now then we could be looking at a wide area of nice accumulating snow fall

They also issued this tidbit for after the storm

    WED-FRI:
THE PRIMARY FORECAST CHALLENGE WILL BE "DEGREE" OF COOL-DOWN AS CLEARING
SKIES COUPLED WITH SNOW COVER & DIMINISHING WINDS WILL INDUCE ALL AREAS
TO REALLY "CHILL OUT". CNTRL KS MAY ONLY REACH THE UPR TEENS ON WED WITH
LOWS DROPPING INTO THE MARIANAS TRENCH WED NGT. THE CURRENTLY ASSIGNED
LOWS OF ~10F TO CNTRL KS WED NGT MAY NEED LOWERING AS THIS PERIOD
    APPROACHES.
As it is with weather stay tuned things can change.....the local channels will be all over this so I am sure you will not be left out of the loop. It all depends on the track of the storm
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

Update...the last 5 or so model runs are trending the low further south...that would mean a chance of all snow here in the metro area rather then Snow, the Rain, then light snow at the end of the storm. Still it should "mix" for a little bit.

The image that the NWS has shows the Low north of what the newer runs have showed. The preferred model for this winter just came out and had the Low around 150-200 miles further south then it has previously. This could be because of the snowfall set to fall in Northern Kansas and Southern Nebraska.

It will be interesting to watch...

2-5 here for Wichita. ....could be more if it continues to dig south like it has been. Also the computer models were about 5 degrees to warm today for a high temperature......something to think about. The NWS in Wichita has been thinking that the models have been too warm all along.

You do know your using a graphic that is way out of date. See above for the most accurate.

Yep, I know its out of date by about 4 hours....I got this from the video update that says "Updated" so I fugred that was the newest graphic. I don't really care because that is probably what is going to happen. The Low pressure continues to drop south but the models are bringing it north....talk about chaos at all of the NWS stations in the Mid-West.

We'll be lucky to get a trace. It's gonna be too warm to do anything.

We're getting close to a half-inch on the ground. Moderate snowfall currently.

When I left my games tonight there was a light dusting on the ground. When I hit West Wichita there was nothing. Currently at the house there's nothing.

Yea at my house there is currently nothing....this is not the main storm however. The preferred model for this storm just came out 5 minutes ago and it showed temperature supporting almost all snow for Wichita and the precipitation will be there. I would look for snow totals to be upped for the area into the 3+ range if this run were to verify. Right now the main energy is out in Southern Nevada.

By the way.....wind chills of in the negative 10 to negative 15 range for the KC area Tuesday Night and most of Wednesday...stay warm those of you who are going to the game.
