  • Bring back Shocker Football!!!!

How about another thread on this hot topic?

Only if Mars, Koch and Blasi would cough up some big bucks we would be back in business.

Its been awhile since we have beaten this horse, actually I think its just comatose and not dead, but who would WSU have to hire to bring this thing back? Do you bring in someone like Phil Fulmer (if money is not a large object) or even a Bowden with BCS experience and obvious recruiting ties or do you bring in a successful juco coach that thinks he can bring some of his quality players with him and then use his ties to juco schools to feed him some players. Do you do this over a couple of years where you have a recruiting class of juco players and fresmen and then redshirt everyone for a year and have another recruiting class of juco and freshmen and then start playing a schedule in the fall. This way you can have two years of recruits to fill rosters and a full year to implement a system before you start playing. Thanks Shirley I was actually thinking about this this morning and you provided a perfect vehicle to re introduce this topic.

I don't know what really stopping the return of football. Can't the university do what the U.S. government does - print money to fund the program.

The "bringbackshockerfootball" website has gotten $250,890 of potential donations and has at least 1100+ people who want to attend the game. Of course that is well below 50,000 responses and $15 million in pledges they were hoping to get.

There are so many people with all of the answers on this board, I cannot figure out why no big checks are written by any of them?

Big checks can be written. However, it takes people in WSU leadership positions to have the vision and drive to make it happen. No one will write a big check or even a small check if the leadership does not have the drive to make it happen.
WSU football is not dead because of lethargy of supporters, but rather because of lack of leadership.
Our best chance at this point is for our blue-blood AD to start the initiative, and I wouldn't be surprised if ADES is the one who lights the fire.

Football will only have a sliver of hope when a pro-football school president somehow slips through the cracks during the Kansas Board of Regents hiring process.

At the most basic level, a football-less WSU is the result of a trickle down ideology. From the KBOR who hire the school president, to the athletic director hired by school president, to the resultant decisions and direction laid out by the athletic director.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy originating from the KBOR who do anything within their power to minimize every facet of WSU.

Lastly, just a shoutout to good ol' Lew Perkins and his happily padded resume as a result of that decision 20+ years ago. How ironic that you now work for the KBOR teacher's pet- KU.

My pick for head coach would be Nebraska legend Turner Gil. He has done a great job at Buffalo.

I agree with Veritas, Eric Sexton has to want football back. He has to take the lead on this. However, it is a two edge sword for sure. Wichita State defines the City of Wichita, or at least it should.

Another sport that we can get beaten in by Northern Iowa.

Kennesaw State launches Football Exploratory Committee.

KSU President Daniel S. Papp held a press conference on Thursday to announce the formation of a 33-member exploratory committee that will formally gauge support for a football program at the suburban Atlanta university. The committee will study the pros and cons of having a football team, how much it would cost, how much support exists, what facilities would be needed, what would be needed to maintain National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Title IX compliance, and how football would impact other athletics programs at KSU.

The committee will provide a final report of its recommendations in September 2010.

This is a tired subject and some of you are delusional. You aren't going to be able to just bring in an established coach to take over a start-up program. Football is not financially feasible for WSU right now. Sorry if that hurts, but it's the truth.
