Do you think the arena managers dropped the ball getting into the winter concert rotation for some of the major touring acts? We haven't seen squat as far as other acts scheduled for Wichita in late winter and early spring. How firm are the large acts tour schedules at this time of year for, say, 6 months out?

Regarding large tours: I put in an offer this week for a major country artist on a July 10, 2010 date.

Taylor Swift is hot lol.
Anyways you can't book artists that aren't on tour. The Rolling Stones aren't on tour (I'm pretty sure), U2 is doing football stadiums, and I don't think Led Zeppelin is touring. Management companies are telling there artists to not tour right now because of the volatile economy.
In weather forecasting this is considered "wishcasting" wishing for "perfect storms" that aren't possible right now.
A good sign is though that the biggest tour announced for next year, Taylor Swift, has Wichita as a tour stop. Don't get discouraged yet.
P.S.: It is ironic though that the biggest act I wanted to see next year was Kanye West (yes I like his music and he is a great entertainer) and his tour is canceled and we are getting Taylor Swift lol.The mountains are calling, and I must go.

you can book artists that are not on tour. It will just cost that much more.
If someone is already in dallas and wants take the trek north why not stop in Wichita on their way to city x,y,z.
But since they will be coming to do just the one show they will command a bigger fee. I bet you your childrens children if you called (name a band that isnt touring) and offer them a huge fee and they will come play that one show. On top of that you get the billing of (Band is playing one time only) which will make the tickets (which promoters are sure to gouge) go that much quicker.
It is pretty stupid for acts to be on tour though. NO guarantee of sales and the companies front big money to pay for it all. So in the end they lose out.

I'm gonna hafta agree with SFL on this one. IBA management has done little to promote the arena so far. The IBA website is updated about once every 3 months. The facebook page is the same way. I haven't seen a picture from inside the place since August and I'm still clueless on some of the key details to the arena.. i.e. the LED ribbon board, the scoreboard type and design, etc.
The Eagle does the best it can for what it can work with. I'm a little disappointed that they haven't gone back in the place since August and gave us another visual update though.
Overall, at least so far, I'm disappointed in the promotion of the venue and just the overall ineptitude of the management and process.
Not to mention I'm still perturbed about the overall design of the place (about 3-4,000 seats short of what it needed to be)..Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.
