It now seems quite possible that President Obama has returned to his roots and taken up using smack again. That, of course, would be unfortunate, especially for his kids. We need a clearer, more intelligent and less narcotic laced mind in Washington.

As Judge Elihu Smails once said, "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too."

It's nice that he can save or create a future job for himself when the time comes.

It seems quite simple. Stop spending more than you have...

Also, it's time Japan, S-Korea, and Europe start paying their fair share of military protection the United States taxpayers provide.
Just as Regan broke the Soviets' back by outspending their military with the star wars SDI initiative, being a global policeman is going to break this country.

We never should have gone off the gold standard in the early 70s.
Printing money not backed by anything became much too easy.

Could you explain this with some links or quotes? Thanks.

And don't use any hearsay quotes or one of the many extreme web sites.

I'm sorry, but explain what? I was offering my opinion on what it would take a (seemingly) rational & intelligent individual to now consider such a fiscally awful course of action, an action that will further cripple the deadbeats that swept him into office. I don't have to quote anyone or anything....it is my opinion, and I stated it as such, and not as fact when I said "SEEMS quite POSSIBLE".

            Or am I missing something?

No extreme website like MSNBC or The Huffington Post, nor do I need to quote great thinkers and doers like Wanda Sykes, Joy Baher, Rachel Maddow or Bill Maher, thanks.

You lost me with the gold standard bit; however, you are correct to point out that EU countries have relied on the military security of the United States particularly since the conclusion of WWII. Maybe would should not be a “global policeman” (I understand and sympathize with this position) – but I ask if not the United States – who? And the flip side is the fact that America’s preeminence has had positive results, good results – for millions. What many on the Left don’t understand is this:

Only a free and proud America could have provided the military umbrella necessary to Europe’s development into an essentially disarmed socialist society - one dependent militarily and economically on the U.S. largely because we are so unlike it – at least for now. Furthermore, America’s supremacy resulted in a degree of freedom and affluence for millions impossible elsewhere. Of course, this in turn fuels many on the Left romantic ideas of utopianism, e.g., because America was so rich and leisured, those on the Left could indulge in criticizing it for not being consistently perfect.

This has nothing to do with a consumption tax; however, it is worth considering what a world without a strong America would actually be like. Would it be safer?
