"Everybody who understands our long-term budget problems understands we're going to need a new source of revenue, and a VAT is an obvious candidate," said Leonard Burman, co-director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, who testified on Capitol Hill this month about his own VAT plan. "It's common to the rest of the world, and we don't have it."


They don't get it. The problems are spending related, not income related.

There are simply too many academia-insider-suckling-off-the-government-teat types trying to tell those of us making it in the real world how to spend our money.

Of course it's popular around the world....they're all idiots.


The problem is SPENDING not INCOME.

While we're at it we should repeal the 17th as well.

If it wasn't clear in 1913, it should be clear now that our "federal" ("national" would be more precise) government is just a slave-master and we are the slaves?

They aren't going to reduce spending and get out of our wallets until their authority to do so (or at least, what they interpret as their authority) is taken away.

Repeal the 16th amendment and eliminate the IRS. Then pass a new amendment that expressly prohibits a tax on wages/salary and purchased goods.

Getting rid of useless political positions and actually reducing the size of gov't would go much farther in helping America than anything being proposed right now. How much money is wasted on Medicade and Medicare? How much is wasted on the insane bureaucracy that runs every gov't organization? Do we really need 14 Czars who answer to nobody? Stop taxing the hell out of the people and start being smart with money.
