It`s quite possible the Royals could win the division. Some tv sports people are predicting the AL Central to be the most competitive & 9 games could seperate first & last place.
That's what I heard the other day on the Royals 30 in 30 on MLBTV. A lot depends on how the 3, 4 and 5 starters pitch. I'm hoping by the end of the year that Hochevar and Banny may be back in those spots or Ponson, Davies and Ramirez produce. I like what Davies has shown in ST, hopefully he continues and the other two step up.
Do the Royals go with 3 catchers because they don't want to say goodbye to Buck? I'm not quite sure how he fits into the future of this club--anybody else?
Especially knowing that none of the catchers are very regularly also hold the DH spot (as Buck, Jacobs, and even Teahen will occupy that position).
Also, I sure wish Dayton had signed a reliable number 3 starter (that could have earned the 4 spot). Ponson is not going to cut it.
Brayan Pena is the 3rd catcher. He can also backup 3B and, I think, a corner OF spot. There may have also been another factor (contractually?) that helps KC by having him on the roster.
I suspect that once we get into the schedule far enough where a 5th starter will be consistently necessary, a catcher will be dropped from the 25-man roster and another pitcher added.
I believe a move will be made on Friday when Ponson will have to be added to the roster in order to pitch. They've been able to leave him off for now since he's on a minor league contract. Once they officially add him someone will be moved.
