Obama recently spoke to a group of supposedly hand-picked Pennsylvania citizens. Here were his remarks when asked about a possible gun ban:

“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.

So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

Sounds to me as if he's actually thought about doing this. Enough so that he's identified one of the hurdles.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The gun control lobby stresses the first part of that amendment. The gun ownership lobby stresses the second half.

I personally believe gun ownership is a right. Even if you feel that the first half of the 2nd amendment is the critical basis for granting the second half then the national guard qualifies as a militia:

Militia definition (M/W) "a part of the organized armed forces of a country liable to call only in emergency"

Since there is a milita the"changed" argument does not hold water.

I don't know exactly how it's been interpreted in the past, but I have a hard time believing "Militia" is synonymous with "people". Therefore, I think "people" must be individuals, of whom can be called on to join a militia.

Another way to word it is, in my opinion, "since a militia is necessary, people shall be able to bear arms". Having a National Guard does not absolve people of their right.

Today, that could only be accomplished by armed cititzens.

I must disagree with your last sentence. If there are not enough people to man your militia it would make no difference (my shot gun would not have much effect against the weapons the government has) and if there are enough people to support the need for armed change then they can vote the change through peacefully.
