As a registered Republican I will ask this question?
1) Why should I vote for a Republican president when there has been a Republican president in office for 8 years and:
The government is not being reduced in size or spending. Far from it. Deficits are growing and the taxes I spend to pay interest on this debt is a major portion of my tax bill.
The U.S. has lost credibility in international and human rights affairs due to a war in Iraq that on its face was unnecessary and appears to have more to do with oil than WMD's in Iraq. (On this point I felt at the time that if reports were correct that Saddam had WMD's and was about to use them then we needed to go into Iraq and if the WMD's were not there then there should be hell to pay for the leaders who brought us and the troops the war. The leaders were not held accountable in 2004.
We, the U.S., tortured prisoners. This should never happen or be allowed. How can a government talk of human rights and do this?
The Al Queda organization has not been stopped or controlled.
Has the war in Iraq located Osama Bin Laden or stopped the spread of terrorists.
Taxes have not been lowered. The U.S. government is taking in more than they did in 2000.
Spending increases have not stopped. The budget is not balanced nor will it be for some time. It really concerns me that the Republicans constantly promise fiscal responsibility, less government and less spending but never follow through. These are spend and spend some more Republicans.
For 8 years now at airports we are alert level orange. Does anyone believe that this is going to change. Shouldn't this be the normal green level now? Is the policy to keep us scared? Does anyone pay anymore attention to the Orange level alert than if the same thing was said in a Green level alert?
Our troops ares stretched too thin. Our weapons depleted and wearing out. Much more spending will be needed to replenish the used up planes, tanks and other weapons.
There is no solution to the illegal immigration issue and it appears that the Republicans and Democrats actually are in favor of allowing this to continue so that they can get the working wages in line with the world economy. The answer is not in more and higher fences. It is to remove the incentive for the illegal aliens wanting to come here and that is for jobs. Employers need to be held accountable for who they employ.
There is no energy policy from the current administration to address the energy needs for the future. I knew in 1981 from classes that in 2020 to 2030 or there about easy oil (oil that can be pumped from the ground) was going to tail off. What we are seeing now is a blip from what will happen to prices in the future in 10 to 15 years.
So again after I have listened to McCain and the promises he makes, why should I vote for him when it appears that they just make promises to get elected and never follow through on them?
