My gut tells me she has sold out her conservative positions so she can be compatible with McCain.
I agree. Lots of fluff...not much meat...except for those republicans who just want to hear her be "catty" to the media and dems.

Her job was not necessarily to set forth her position on every issue last night – that will come in the days and weeks to follow. First and foremost, she needed to introduce herself to the American people and demonstrate that she is ready to be in the national spotlight. Personally, she was everything I thought she would be and a bit more. She was my first choice for McCain’s VP slot and I couldn’t be happier with her performance.

If you really think she has “sold out her conservative positions so she can be compatible with McCain” – you couldn’t be more wrong. Nothing in this woman’s background suggests that she backs down from anyone – including McCain.

I say to Gov. Palin – great speech. Well done.

The left wing media and dems deserve everything they get. They've started a 'war' and woke up a sleeping giant.

Not to get too carried away but, in light of last nights speech and the preceding media coverage of Palin, I am reminded of the words of Yamamoto after he attacked Pearl Harbor:

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant, and fill [her] with a terrible resolve."

To compare Admiral Yamamoto to the media is uncalled for and frankly insulting........

                To Admiral Yamamoto.

The picture of her holding her downs baby was not only powerful but priceless. IMO she is the ONLY candidate that the common folks can relate to. She has a real family, with common issues. The husband looks like the type of guy you invite over for MNF and a few beers. She attended a state school. She speaks like a regular person. She comes off as a real person not a celebrity politician.

I don't think Palin sells anything out.

She was as specific as she should have been. Convention speeches are not the place for a policy paper recitation. And for a newcomer to the national stage it needed to be, and was, a lot about her bio and what type of person she is.

She was specific about what's she done with the Alaska budget, vetoeing wasteful spending and putting the state jet on eBay.

She spoke about energy independence and what she's done in Alaska on that front.

She was specific about not just lowering taxes but returning tax money to Alaska citizens. NOBODY DOES THAT.

She was also made it clear that she is tough and will take the political fight right into the grill of Obama and Biden.

Hopefully Ron Paul will be helpful in this election.

She's real and all that, but I am not OVERLY impressed with her. Vice Presidents, historically, have very little say in matters, and are more of a 'yes' man than anything.

My vote for President will be based SOLELY on McCain or Obama.

Me thinks you guys are 'gushing' over her too much!!!

You are right, of course, the top of the ticket matters most -- but as no fan of McCain her inclusion on the ticket is significant to me. Besides, the VP entails a lot more than it used to – its days of ridicule (John Adams, etc.) are no longer completely accurate.

As I do more research I'm finding that Palin was quite a fan of federal earmarks while mayor of Wassila (hired a lobbyist and received $27 million in pork). McCain is an outspoken opponent of pork spending. Will she reconcile this with her current position, which changed only after she was elected governor?

She is in favor of more drilling in ANWR. McCain has voted in favor of bills that would ban drilling there. Will she change her stance to fit McCain?

I'll be curious what her position on illegal immigration is. I can only predict at this point, keeping with her conservative positions, that she would not be in favor of amnesty or benefits for illegals (not much out there). McCain has shown support for this.

I know that no two candidates are going to agree on everything. I just wonder if she will show integrity by sticking to her positions when they don't agree with McCain. I hope she does. It will be a breath of fresh air.

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer is a "real" person and has executive experience overseeing a city of almost 400k...but I wouldn't vote for him in a presidential election.

So what is your point? Do the numbers of the constituency mean more to you than the actual individual? I guess by your standard no governor, etc….is appropriate to be elected to high office. Does character and judgment not matter?

Go ahead and make such arguments….for that is a "fight", if I were in the McCain campaign, that I would welcome.

PS. Palin is the VP......she is not the top of the ticket.

Actually, I'm not on either side and it seemed very scripted and very defensive, rather than focusing on the issues that matter.

Royal, how dare you listen for content and beliefs! I must say I noticed the same thing in listening to her speach. I really didn't learn anything about her that would sway me in either direction. Her job was clearly to defend her family, trash Obama and read a speach that was written for her.

I myself am independant. Unless I see something that completely changes my mind, I probably won't vote for McCain am heavily leaning towards Obama. One of the main reasons is the constant complaining I'm hearing from Republicans and everything they jab Obama for, they defend Republicans for. Please visit the link below and make sure you watch the video, it pretty much sums up what I've heard from most Republicans I've talked to.
