    rayc,

Speaking only for myself, I am mostly bothered by the TIMING. Obama has been campaigning for how long now? Why do these types of things only seem to come to light in the latter stages of events? I know, I know, strike while the iron is hot, but I find these tactics distasteful, no matter which side I'm on. I haven't chosen a side, yet, but this isn't scoring brownie points with me.

The issue of Obama’s “missing” birth certificate has been around since the start. The only reason it is an issue is that he has always been reluctant to produce it, even though apparently in one of his books he claims he has it. The MSM has consistently ignored the issue but it has been flying around the internet for a long time, similar to the Edwards affair.

The Obama campaign committee’s justification of the document they finally produced was that it was sufficient for a U.S. passport. However the citizenship requirements for a passport and the office of the POTUS are not the same. I’m quite sure that Gov. Schwarzenegger has a U.S. passport, but he is not eligible to run for the office of POTUS.

It should have never become an issue, the fact that it has can only be laid at the feet of Obama. Release the stupid document or authorize its release and the whole thing goes away. The more he fights it, the more ammo he gives to rumors. The minute a suit was filed in a federal court elevated the seriousness of the charges.

If you are looking for reasons to believe that Berg (the attorney filing the suit) may be a bit of a whacko, read the interview done with him (link for it at the end of linked article). The interview I think provides more information than the article and it’s impossible to read it without wondering about him (Berg).

It’s just my personal opinion of course, but I think anyone running for the office of POTUS should have the documents proving that they are constitutionally qualified for the office. I also believe any citizen has the right to request to see them, and they should be produced if asked. The burden of proof should not be on the public, the burden of proof, if challenged, should be on the candidate.

All just my humble opinion of course.

          rayc,

Thank you for clearing that up. I will check out the link on Berg. I am trying to become as educated as I can about both candidates and once again, I'm not crazy about either choice.
I have stated that I don't like smear campaigns. All of the personal attacks and suspicion leveled against Obama, and now Biden, leave me puzzled.
I have read some horrible things about McCain (and his wife) from people in Arizona who claim to know them, but for some reason I'm not hearing or seeing any of that reported in the media, but maybe I'm missing that too.
I HATE not having cable... :-x

            shockandawe08,

you're not really missing much news without cable. They don't really carry anything more than the papers.

This issue for example, is one you will only see on the internet, neither the MSM papers nor TV will touch it, unless of course Berg prevails. Then it would just seem that the whole thing had just happened and they were on top of it. If it bothers you, put it out of your mind, you'll see nothing in the papers or TV about it. To me it became "news worthy" with the filing in federal court.

If you haven't been hearing about McCain it's probably because the election coverage to date has primarily been the Democratic primary coverage between Clinton and Obama. The general election campaign doesn't really start until after the conventions. There will be plenty of negative coverage on both candidates, there always is and has been since the first campaign.
