This is what I do currently to work out

    defrancostraining.com/articles/articles.htm

(I do the 4 day plan)

and I do HIIT (High Intensity Interval training twice a week)

you can do run, swim, bike, eliptical machine, etc.

you do a 5 minute warmup and you begin your intervals (30 sec sprint then 30 sec jog and repeat over and over) then 5 minute cooldown

it's much more time efficient than traditional cardio (at most you'll spend 25 minutes per session doing HIIT) and it burns up to 9 times as much body fat because of epoc or Excess post exercise oxygen
    consumption

    here's some articles:

Im eating a pound of fruit as we speak haha.

Seriously I just got back from Branson on Saturday. out of the 7 days that I was there I ran up and down the hills 3 days. That right there killed me. But it was fun and now that Im back at home and doing my same ol routine "jog/run" around the block I find it alot easier.

I've been running 3-4 miles/day for the last year and a half. I usually do this 4-5 times/week.

I don't know about you all, but I find it much more difficult to run on a treadmill, than outside. So, I've got to brave the weather (hot and cold, wind and rain) to get a workout, even though a have a gym membership.

One thing I thank the taxpayers of Johnson County for are the excellent parks and trails that I use.

I competed in my first 10k run this spring (Hospital Hill Run), and am planning for some sort of event in the fall (TBD). If anyone knows of any good events over the next 6 months, let me know.

When I was in Dodge City over the 4th I ran on a treadmill all weekend. It wasnt to bad but I was in teh room by myself with my Ipod. Running in place to me is kind of bleh But I can do both.

I just can't run. Too much abuse on my knees. I do ride a stationary bike from time to time but the seat on mine is killer and my butt goes numb after about 10 minutes. I used to do the cross country ski thing at home but never felt it gave a good enough workout for the time I spent with it. I could go at a pretty decent speed for about 90 minutes and still feel just fine.

I need to find something I can do though especially during the off season. I should probably start with finding a new seat for the bike. Or maybe actually buy a real bike and ride it around/outside of town.

              Sub:

You can do the HIIT training Hotel Paper talked about above by doing your interval on an incline walk at a little faster pace...just set the incline up enought so it is a struggle to get through your interval. For great functional training go to:

Dude get a trainer for your bike and a new seat. Then you dont have to deal with the elements and you can use your own bike in the comfort of your house or garage. You can adjust the resistance to make up for a lack of wind or incline for a very effective workout. If you go this route you may also want to think about getting a cyclocomputer to track speed, distance, heart rate etc. I use this method as it saves my knees and shins and my girlfriend has also picked it up and just a couple weeks ago my mom actually went this route and she loves it. Here are a few links to give you an idea what I'm talking about.
