Here's a big hole in the macro idea of evolution (that we all came from one cell.) BTW, there is no indication of a "half-bat" . . .

Many scientific publications and museums, including the Chicago Natural History museum and the Smithsonian Natural History museum describe how photosynthesis was created.

Of course photosynthesis is a key component to life.

It is typically depicted that algae invented photosynthesis. How can that square with evolution?

I've not heard a counter to this.

"Cyanobacteria were important primary producers during the Archean and invented oxygenic photosynthesis before 2.7 Ga ago"

I thought the movie was very thought provoking.

As the documentry pointed out - there are scientific fields that are in disarray because as we get better technology to see and analyze - the data is not matching their theories and they are finding things are alot more complex (and organized) than their theories would suggest.

I've thought about this and for me there are enough things that go on in the human body that don't fit with evolution, things that just don't make sense that would happen on their own, so I believe they are from a divine creator. Then also for those who believe humans evolved from apes, apes from something else, etc.; even if you trace back to a beginning life form they can't explain what breathed life into that first being, what made its heart start beating? That wouldn't just "evolve" it would have to be created somehow. So I have no doubt in my mind there is a God who created life.
I pretty much align myself with this viewpoint, as well. I'm a Christian and young-Earth proponent, believing that biblical events combined with the manner God created the universe can account for the information that's been observed in our environment. I also fully realize and accept that my belief has a foundation in faith.

I have a serious logic problem with the proposition an eyeball could have developed through evolution. It is so complex with many independent components required to function properly. Did an organism first develop a retina and decide it needed an optic nerve so it set out on a quest to evolve one over the next 100k years? After that it realized it needed a lens, too?

Like SubGod, I don't think either side will ever be proven. I also think Kansas was on the cutting edge when it attempted to teach evolution in its proper context as something less than a proven fact and to recognize competing theories. That is a much more scientific position than proclaiming one as truth and anything else as bunk, which sounds more like a religious position than a scientific one.

Well said Royal. Put me in the same boat as you and Jazz.

Macroevolution is the one that should be under fire. Microevolution I'm fine with. Things adapt to their surroundings and environment. But micro does not prove macro.

I too find it very difficult that all of what we see and know developed somehow from nothing but chaos. I'm definitely not agaisnt the study of the other view as in doing so I'm sure we'll learn many interesting things about out environment, ourselves and everything else around us.

It takes a huge leap of faith to believe that something started from nothing on it's own.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

Won't be proven by scientists and the scientific method :D

I'm suprised this topic was allowed to exist on SN. This is a very controversial subject and can incite heated arguements. Shouldn't religion and politics be avoided on SN?

God created dinosaurs, realized his mistake and then created man right?

It is controverial but can also be discussed in a reasonable manor. I'd like to think us Shocker fans can have civil discussions about interesting topics.

And it was a news article that sparked it.

Personally my stance is I believe we as humans have evolved. Sub made a point eariler about "what started the evolution" and hes got me on that. i couldnt tell you.
Personally I have a hard time believing some dude was sitting around and finally said "im bored let there be light" It makes for a fascinating story and alot of the stuff in the Bible have been proven true. So if you can proove it lets hear it. Until then I know im here and one day in the future I wont be.

I agree. I do believe in evolution, however, I do not believe humans evolved from direct descendents from the species of apes or monkeys. A spinoff branch and variation - yes directly linked - no.

I do have faith and I personally believe God created the planet and universe but instead of instantly creating man and the other lifeforms on Earth, he provided the ingredients for life to exist and let nature takes its course on what was created from these ingredients.

For those who are more well informed on the Bible than I am, I have some questions for you. It's a fact that dinosaurs were here before man, but does the Bible mention anything about them and as to why God would create them first then man second.

Second, Noah's Ark. There are millions upon millions of creatures on this earth and stockpiling them all on an Ark for over a month is not possible. Please explain?

Third, Adam and Eve. If those two were the first man and woman on this earth, and responsible for populating the earth, then wouldn't their offspring, in order to procreate and populate the earth reproduce with members of the same family. As we all know, inbreeding results in genetic mutations and lack of genetic diversity in a species causes that species to become more susceptible to disease, cancers, etc. Not to mention, this would be considered incest and against basic human morality.

Again, please do not misinterpret my questions as attacks on religion. I just have questions that have never been answered.

I'm far from a biblical expert so I'll leave that to someone else or maybe look into some of those later this weekend to provide the proper context to the answers. I know the Adam and Eve answer has nothing to do with inbreeding but again I'd need to get the proper context. It's been a while since that one was covered.

I have a friend that a few years ago spoke to our church on a Wednesday night about science and the Bible. He's seen studies on the explanation for dinosaurs and it made sense. At least as a possibility to explain. Again, it's not my expertise and I'd have to get the info from him. But that could be a few months as he's currently in Jakarta leading a YWAM mission.

I might even bring some of it up at church tomorrow night for those who could answer this better than I.

Good questions KC... I wouldn't touch those with an eleven foot pole.

Here are a few more questions to add to the list (yes, I'm a Christian and believer):

When did the universe/galaxy begin... a gazillion BC?
OK, we don’t know how and when it all started, but how was God created?
I’ve always struggled a little with this thought.

Jesus was a Hebrew and the King of the Jews... assuming he was Jewish; why aren't we all Jews?

Isn't all religion actually a break-off from the catholic religion… originating at the Last Supper? No, I’m not catholic and have no problem with those that are… actually, I don’t have a problem with any religion… now atheists are another story.

My guess is that someone like SubGod can at least take an attempt at providing reasonable answers.

P.S. Is there any other intelligent life in the universe/galaxy?
                              SFL is back!

I've heard that the Amish believe that dinosaurs are a hoax created by God... not sure of the reason. Of course, they also don't believe in putting AIR in tractor tires.
