First of all the Cowtown theater is not going to cost $6 million dollars. It will be about $500,000 to $1 million imo. Also the building will house a restaurant and a place to display artifacts which is desperately needed.

The problem with Cowtown is that it has been neglected for years and it has finally come to bite the city in the butt.

The best thing is to see how the Wranglers do in a year there and also promote Cowtown. Also no museum makes money but everyone in this city wants everything to make money.

I don't see anyone complaining about the Zoo getting $5 million every year. The Zoo is great because it gets enough money from the county. They don't have to worry about closing each year because the county bales them out. Without the tax money the Zoo would be nothing. If Cowtown had half the budget the Zoo gets Cowtown would be a major attraction.

Also when I was an interpretor at Cowtown I had many visitors that wished they had this kind of attraction in their towns. Most of them were not from small towns.

I think Cowtown needs to be saved because without it the next generation will be dumber about history then they currently are.

Speaking of Bill Warren... wasn't there something about him and Darrell Smith being involved in a love triangle?

History unfortunately is just that HIS story.

Im not sure exactly how saving Cowtown will "save" history. As long as people are partly responsible for relaying history down the line. But thats another discussion another time.

I am however intrigued with the baseball games that are played there and have not had the chance to check them out and would like to.

Uh.. that's debatable. Basically, which would be the less of two evils?

The downtown WaterWalk project became an issue in the 2007 mayoral race as candidate Carl Brewer blamed incumbent Carlos Mayans for slowing progress on the development. Mayans said he has helped get the project moving during the past four years. http://wichita.bizjournals.com/wichi...ml?jst=s_cn_hl

Supposedly city elections are non-partison. Mayans used to brag that he listened to Rush Limbaugh daily - sorted helped him declare his party without really doing so. http://dubya.instantspot.com/blog/20...s-and-the-Veto

              Bingo.

Further proving the guy had a lot of baggage and would not have been a very good mayor.

That whole squabble was about the only thing I remembered or associated with his campaign.

                ASM,
Without Cowtown the baseball games will probally end.

Cowtown portrays what Wichita was like in the 1870's. Without the cattle trade Wichita would never become a major city or at least the biggest city in Kansas.

The cowboy culture is very popular around the world. Cowtown actually had people from outside the U.S. come just to see cowboys and cattle.

I just don't see how not saving Cowtown is going to help people's understanding of history.

I'm not saying Mayans was a great mayor. In fact, he was horrible and did the city a lot of bad. That's only half of the argument though. Now, me and SFL have tipped the iceberg on Warren. Do you want me to dig up all the negatives surrounding him?

Warren could not be a worse mayor than Mayans. Bush would have trouble being worse than Mayans.

Go for it. I think Mayans will beat Warren (in being bad).

What has Warren given us? Some great theatres.

What has Mayans given us? A name as a laughing stock.

So your attributes for making a good mayor include asking if people want extra butter on the popcorn?

Ya, the waterwalk and downtown arena weren't given a go under Mayans..

My personal opinions of Warren have nothing to do with his run for mayor or Mayans. Warren was a scumbag and a crook long before he had a theater, success, or ran for mayor. I'll never visit a theater of his nor will any of my family.

None the less, Wichita would have been better off if Warren had won and Wichita is better off with Warren theaters than without.

I think the world would be a better place without Warren myself. Thats really the only way I'll ever be able to honestly say something is better in the same context as Warren.

if people like it and it attracts people then by all means go for it. Different Strokes for different folks. I apologize if im coming off harsh about it. Im trying not to but maybe my words can be chosen better.

As far as the discussion on Warren himself. I met the man before. I worked at the Palace long before there was a Warren West Or Warren East. I didnt like him then. I dont like him now.

I still think the Theater is old town is awesome.
