The former situation is ridiculous; the latter is just common sense.

I would assume that Marshall has grounds for a defamation suit here due to the actions of this clown (although that's obviously not likely). On the other hand, the UK fans are actually being criminally charged.

The two situations are not remotely analogous.
I absolutely hate how social media and this type of activity has exploded. I also don't like people on both sides being severely punished for being stupid in a small window.

Not that it matters what I think, but if I owned that establishment and Jake worked for me, I'd offer Jake a choice. Delete his posts, issue a public apology (ok'd by me) in the same thread, and send Coach Marshall a personal apology privately.

Do that and you can keep your job. Don't and it's obvious you don't respect people enough to be in the CUSTOMER SERVICE INDUSTRY.

But then I respect Gregg and his family, and can't fathom doing something like that to him. We all make mistakes, this seems like an opportunity to fix one. But what do I know?

I'm with you on this. When you are naming people on the internet and publishing private information from their patronage online, I think that's pretty bad form at best. I'm all for second chances and I wouldn't fire the guy for it, but its a bad look for sure. It's a bad look when you do that to anyone, not just a guy who is known to be rich. In a nutshell, Marshall is held to some obscure standard for tipping because he is known to be rich, and when he doesn't make it rain on somebody, that person complains publicly on the internet that the rich person didn't give them a bunch of money. And let's be real, $5 on $50 is a small tip, but it IS a tip in the ballpark of what is normal. I tip somewhere around 18% in general. That would have been $9. We are talking about $4 here. Get back with me when Marshall goes to Chester's and racks up a $500 bill and tips $5 like a jack@$$. That won't happen.

I'm pretty sure Aero Plains Brewery isn't even a restaurant. This is a taphouse right? It's just not that big of a deal, and this guy post this private transaction on the internet. It's a bad look.

Having said all that. I love beer, and I will absolutely go to Aero Plains Brewing anytime.

Exactly. And to be clear, nobody here cares about how he tips. It's the other guy who does. I'm on this thread because I'm tired of the kind of people who do stuff like go to the internet to roast everyone instead of either getting over it or talking to that person and forgiving them. It seems like the internet is where you go to complain when you don't have the balls to work on your relationships and you just want to vent or gossip.

The worst is when you see those stupid social media posts that are obviously meant for a loved one...it says something like "screw you, you jerk. see if I come to Thanksgiving next year after THAT" but it never mentions a person. But you know that person has facebook and saw it. Person A just wants "likes" from their friends and for a bunch of people to pay attention to them and create drama with them.

You sound like someone who is in the customer service industry and knows what he's doing. :)

I believe he said it did NOT happen at Aero Plains in a more recent post.

If that's true, then the whole thing is even dumber.

Yep, this is how I would handle it as well.

That's called walking back your statement when the SHTF. Of course he has to say that, at this point.

For all we know the service may not have even warranted the 10% tip. It's called a "tip" for a reason. Not a stipend.

I believe this statement is true as Aero Plains uses food trucks and does not serve food themselves. He mentions early on that HCGM "Even got his meal 1/2 off."

So there is no confusion, him posting this, true or not, is extremely stupid given his line of work for a new business trying to build goodwill within our community. I fully agree with Doc on what should take place within Aero Plains.

Hopefully this guy sees the folly in his statement and just deletes it before it does any harm to his employers business. After some thought, I definitely walk back my statement of not ever going to Aero Plains. I just hope the owner reels in his employee from making unfair and slanderous statements on social media about a man who has done so much for the city of Wichita.

There are some establishments in town that are genuinely hostile towards WSU, and it's fans so it's easy to get on the defensive seeing crap like this.

It's easy for me to say I won't ever patronize a beer-only brewery, 'cause I ain't so much a fan of the taste of beer.

I wish someone on here knew the owner and could just put in their 2 cents about the person that said this. If I owned the place I sure would like to know what a group of people are collectively saying about someone that works for me and could possibly have bad PR linked back to me and my business.

He did say it wasn't at Aero Plains so not sure it really has anything to do with them. I don't know any of the owners. I know the guy in question, he's not a bad guy. I've seen Marshall leave big tips, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got pissed about something and left a small one. Looks like he decided to delete it so it's over, we can all go back to work! lol

Whether it happened at Aero Plains or not, it does have to do with them. He puts Aero Plains' picture at the top of his Facebook page and is their rep (the face of the company) that deals with their off site sales. I hope it does not effect Aero Plains, because they are all good people there, too, but, as it has done here, some owners of bars/restaurants may not look kindly on his posting as well. You've got to have more caution about how one's words can effect your employer and, in some cases, your employment.
