There are also studies out there talking about how volcanic activity under Yellowstone with essentially destroy the western half of mainland US at some point, but that's not stopping population growth in that same footprint.

True. But there is not 10,000 years of evidence to suggest that the likelihood of such an event in the next 20 years is moderate-to-high.

Also, when the Yellowstone caldera blows, it doesn't really matter where you are, you're screwed. Those living in the immediate blast radius may be the lucky ones.
