  • The Really Big One

An interesting - but long - read on the expected earthquake and tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.

When the Cascadia fault line ruptures, it could be North America’s worst natural disaster in recorded history.

I think someone needs to teach that earthquake a lesson.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

That was a pretty decent rumbler about 5 minutes ago. Anyone feel it outside east Wichita?

Felt like a wake from a boat, only I was sitting in an office chair, in a building, and on land. It was short (I only felt the one wave), but it was the strongest amplitude (if you will) of any earthquake I've felt in KS thus far.

I've been at my desk in my office for 3 previous shakes and never felt one. This one I felt.

Per the USGS, it was a 4.5 centered down in Crescent, Oklahoma, at about 1:12. They also are listing one today in the same place at 12:49.

I keep considering moving to Seattle to be near the wife's family. This is making us strongly reconsider. Frightening.

I wouldn't worry about it. Go!

There are also studies out there talking about how volcanic activity under Yellowstone with essentially destroy the western half of mainland US at some point, but that's not stopping population growth in that same footprint.
