It's a wonderful event and deserves our support.
Those few players making the idiotic statements should be required to watch " The Chef" (which by the way is a wonderful movie) to learn more about the impact of social media. They haven't figured it out yet.

From what I can tell Tom Gillis withdrew after Round 3 as I don't see him listed on the leaderboard. Apparently, a Sheriff's deputy accompanied his pairing in Round 3. Granted Mr. Gillis handled his issues with the Crestview member at the practice areas poorly. You would think a 45-year old man would have the maturity to know the proper channels. The problem with the way Mr. Gillis handled this is that he allowed it to get blown way out of proportion instead of just going through proper channels with tournament officials.

I don't give the Crestview member a total pass on this. I know of at least one Crestview member who is adamantly opposed to hosting this tournament and I suspect he isn't the only one. However, I'm confident he would not do anything to try and disrupt the tournament. Whether or not the Lady Member in question was deliberately trying to make a statement or be an irritant I can't say. I understand that many club members probably don't like hosting the tournament. But once your Club has made the commitment to host than everyone should at least agree to deal with it and be good hosts. I'm not sure what the protocol is for members mingling with the pros in the practice areas during the tournament but perhaps Crestview needs to clarify what is and what isn't acceptable for its members.

The reason it is difficult for the pro shop to monitor members having access to "player only" areas like the practice ground is the south course is open for member play so member golfers are going to be walking close to these "player only" areas. The female golfer who was pictured practicing around the chipping green was attempting to make a statement regarding her opposition of the tournament at Crestview. She was certainly in the wrong just as much as Gillis was wrong to socially tweet his opinion. I was told by a PGA official that a fine or suspension will be the penalty for Gillis' transgression. His tweet could have had major negative consequences in the relationship with the PGA and Roy Turner. Trust me when I say the PGA is vested long-term in Wichita being a part of the PGA tournament family. Wichita is one of only four tournaments (Boise, ID; Springfield, MO; Knoxville, TN) still in operation since the inception of this tour back in 1990.

With all the drama, the "golf" event was a complete success. Sebastian Cappelen, a Monday qualifier and recent graduate of Arkansas, won the tournament with some of the best shot making in my recent memory. The crowds came out in record fashion and the atmosphere was as exciting as any year I can remember. All in all, it was a smashing success and I am always sad when Sunday night of tournament week gets here.

Just what are the kind of complaints by those who are members/live on site members to a country club having a tourney such as this? The number of people? All should have a love of golf (or at least one spouse per family). Such an event would be a treat to watch and I would think somewhat prestigious for the country club. If you didn't live there prior to 1990, you should have known the event is going to be held and if you didn't like it, live/golf elsewhere. After 25 years of the event, if you lived/played there prior to 1990, get a clue. They have a course for members to play during the tourney. Maybe Crestview should also have penalties for members who break the rules.

Dahling, the PGA is such a daft organization. So crude and boorish. How DARE they invite the commoner riff-raff to OUR country club, right Mumsy?

Just like all society, there are some that get it and don't have to verbalize it...and there are those who don't and have to share their boorish opinion. To each their own I guess. It's a great community event that creates millions of dollars for the community, great PR and just gave over $100,000 to an assortment of deserving charities...now pop off!!!
