I think the city has lost a few of the iconic places of my youth. The Cedar, Flicker and the Y-Not. The Stage Door was a great place to go. The campus continues to evolve and has/is becoming more of a pedestrian friendly campus. The intramural fields have all been moved to 29th and Oliver. A new dorm and parking garage will complete this summer. A new Technology building will be built when Wheat Shocker apts comes down. This will be the first building in a Tech and Business park that will eventually cut the golf course to nine holes. Wichita downtown has a few projects going on that will provide more living in the downtown area which should promote more activity downtown and old town despite some recent problems is still a fun place to go after work or before an event at the down town arena. Taco Tico has been replaced by the Taco Shop and we still have our Nu Ways. We have Old Chicago for pizza and some nice places to eat both east and west. Goddard, Andover, Derby and Maize housing all adjoin Wichita housing so if you want to be in the country you have to go further out than those towns. Wichita folks still love to go out to eat and there are lots of new places to try out. Crime is not a factor in most of the city and some employers are starting to hire again. By and by Wichita is still recognizable if you were to come back for a visit but it still embodies many of the good points that make it a nice place to live and work.

Your image and link didn't work. This should work including the link to the larger version in the pdf.

Let's go ahead and rename the northwestern quadrant to Marshall Corridor.

I always thought the campus was nice, even if it was tucked inside of a lawless third world shanty town (the surrounding hood, not the city/town).

I know progress is a good thing, but damn, some of the things that make a city live-able have to stay around. 9 holes for a university golf course? really?
I always liked Bionic Burger and Walts. I also thought Nuway sucked **** through a straw, but liked their root beer. dog and shake shakes FTMFW!!!!
Torys Pizzeria was great (is it still there). Eberly farms on 21st was fun as could be for school trips and private parties. I cant stand watching movies anywhere after the warren except maybe Alamo Draft house (in austin). the lack of traffic was incredible. The cotillion is a out standing music venue. I have seen some of the best shows I have attended thee,ie toadies, reverend horton heat, the urge, and whoever else came to town. watching the deftones at Crown Bingo parlor will always be a great memory.

That may be why I dont have a desire to move back. I have a ton of great memories of the area, and I know that none of what I remember will really be as kick ass as it was in my hell raising heyday. either due to age, I'm 37 now, or due to the fact that some of the places i loved arent there any more.

I am contemplating taking my kid on a trip next winter. That trip would be into austin tx, where she has lived all of her life, to see a ball game at UT(she has been to plenty football games there, no basketball. Thanks rick barnes for your shitty program that I refuse to support until you are replaced).

then moving up to Wichita, she has to see a ball game at the Roundhouse. Its a right of passage to me. There is no other environment better to see a game. after that, I really dont know what to do. I lived in Wichita for 20 years and cant think of a single thing to do in the winter there. kinda sad. Oh, on that note, how hard is it to pull tickets to a ball game during Xmas break?

I think I was at every one of those concerts. Great memories.

Perhaps just ever so slightly exaggerated. Still 1 out of 9 is pretty good for the master, @Kung Wu:.

We always liked a joint called the Library. (I think it was on Maple -- been a long time). It was just nice not to have to lie when my Mom asked me where I was going.

Norm and I are going to the Library, Mom!

Edit: Of course, that was way, way before 1997.

I remember people talking about the library as well as flicker. but dont recall having ever gone to either. its quite possible I was in both at one time or another but too jacked up to remember.

After a baseball game, we would go down and have a few. In high school I might add. Probably saw you there 1972. It was on Douglas and Amidon. Right down the street from the Shamrock.

Drove down West St for the first time in years. Ugh. Pretty ghetto looking.

The is a darn good cloth top Italian restaurant named Bella Vita Bistro at 120 N West Street. It's located in all places in the old Grinder Man sandwich shop. But it's a very good date place.

The Library was on West Douglas.
