A lot of young and innocence in this small group, and I'm sure they're not the only ones that fit in that description.
I also saw somewhere that a 20-year-old woman from Wichita was on the flight headed back to school. She had been in Wichita attending her grandfathers funeral. I think her name was Grace Maxwell and as far as I know, she's the only Wichitan identified as being on the plane so far. I believe her dad reported this to one of the news outlets.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I'm surprised he didn't blame illegal aliens for the crash.

Blancolirio has a really good update that explains a lot of things that were going on that led to the crash.
1. Had the ATC not diverted the flight to another runway, the aircraft and helicopter flight path might never have merged.
2. The accident may not have occurred had the helicopter been at the required 200 ft instead of 300 ft.
3. Had the helicopter flown closer to the far bank on route 4, that may have deconflicted them enough not to crash.

Just a couple lines of thought after reading the previous posts
1. This was listed as a training flight. ALL military flights are logged as training flights if they aren't actually combat missions. If someone wants to fly to another location for lunch or for any reason it is listed as a training flight.
2. The southern approach to RNA is difficult due to the not so easy approach and the tremendous amount of lights on both sides of the Potomac. A friend of mine that I went to flight school with and retired as a Colonel and flew for several commercial airlines told me that having made multiple landings there he seldom picked up the VASI light system employed due to the amount of other lights around the airport.
3. Its clear weather and both pilots of the AA Jet were eyes out of the cockpit with the co-pilot glancing at the instruments to ensure proper readings. I don't know if they were made aware of the helicopter and its close proximity.
4. I saw a report where the Army pilots were wearing Night Vision Goggles. The ones that are used now are superior to earlier types that aviators used to wear but they do make objects seem further away than they really are. If they were using NVG they may have misjudged the separation of the two aircraft. A friend of mine was killed in a night training refueling exercise. He and his BN literally over ran the tanker while using first gen NVG.
5. I am fairly certain that the findings will indicate a lapse of one if not several practices and or procedures.
Everything is fine and dandy until someone dies. In this case it was more than one. May God have mercy on all of these souls.

WBJ - Civil rights attorney, East High grad among plane crash victims
A civil rights attorney who grew up in Wichita was among the 64 people on American Airlines Flight 5342 who perished after it crashed into the Potomac River.
Kiah Duggins, 30, was on her way home to Washington, D.C., where she worked as an attorney for the Civil Rights Corps. She had been in Wichita to be with her mother during a surgical procedure.
Duggins’ family members confirmed Thursday that she was onboard the flight.
Duggins was born in Wichita and graduated from the International Baccalaureate program at Wichita East High School before attending Wichita State University as a Clay Barton Scholar.
She went on to earn a degree from Harvard Law School, where she served as president of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
She was the daughter of Maurice and Gwen Duggins. Maurice Duggins is a family practice doctor in Wichita, and Gwen is a retired educator.
Sounds like she was a bright, ambitious young woman that really had a good heart and was set to do a lot of good.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

While at WSU, she was a White House intern, co-founded Shocker Locker food pantry, was Miss Butler County and finished top 10 in Miss Kansas. More recently, she was a voice that pushed the EPA to act on the contaminated groundwater in north Wichita.

While Trump’s point on DEI is completely spot-on, that was a terrible time to deliver it. There’s no evidence at the time pointing to any of that or having any indirect result from it. He made a blanket political statement at the time when bodies are still laying in a cold river. WTF was he thinking?
Trump is a genius on policy and running a country. He will clean up messes. But my god, he can be moronic on the human side of things. That’s where he shows he’s not a politician. That can be good sometimes and absolutely dreadful other times. I hope his crew reamed him for those remarks.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Here's a good video from YouTube from a pilot giving his opinion on what happened. He plays the parts from the radio communications throughout and explains things. In his opinion, he thinks the helicopter pilots were focusing on a 2nd airplane. As of now, his video is trending #1 on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfgllf1L9_4
Also, according to this article, there was almost and incident the day before in a similar situation - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...t/78079868007/Not responsible for damage from posts that sail over the reader's head.
