What the hell?! Sometimes there are things that happen outside of the area that are news worthy or interesting. So here we go. This one made me chuckle a bit, but I do get that it could be of value to the community.

I get wanting to build something that may draw people in to help the economy. I support that. I know there are people who are drawn to such attractions so it may have more value than I think. I'm simply not someone that goes out of my way to see or find such attractions.
I have seen the well in Greensburg as a kid. I think that had more to do with it was on the way to Dodge City so we stopped. I've never seen Big Brutus. I've never made the trip out to see the ball of twine. I'm not sure if Kansas has any other biggest/largest attractions.
I hope it draws enough to help local businesses and potentially ease some of the tax burden on those in the town. Perhaps I'm just different as I'm drawn more to nature and natural features than man made ones. Though I do like a good museum from time to time.

The City of Lyons is using a state grant to launch a unique construction project toward its goal of drawing more visitors to its community. The city’s plan is to build the world’s largest salt shaker.
The plan surprised many in Lyons when they heard about their town’s next project.
“We’re going to have a tourist attraction, draw some attention,” said Mike’s Furniture Store Manager Many Hogg.
That excitement in the community is what Lyons Community Development Coordinator Alicia Hommon said she wants to see.
“It’ll give someone a reason to drive into downtown Lyons and see what we have going on down here,” Hommon said.
In a few months, plans call for the world’s largest salt shaker to call a corner of downtown Lyons home and attract more traffic.
“Rural America and rural Kansas is struggling right now because we need those tax dollars coming in, people coming in to see who we are, spending money in our commercial quarter,” Hommon said.
