Royals' fourth-round pick ready for pro ball
KANSAS CITY -- Kenny Diekroeger has been through all this before.

The Royals made the Stanford shortstop their fourth-round pick on Tuesday, Day 2 of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He was also drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2009 Draft.

Diekroeger was great in his senior year at Menlo High School in Atherton, Calif., batting .586 with four home runs and 20 RBIs. He passed on a contract offer from the Rays, deciding instead to play at Stanford. It's a decision he said was very difficult, but in the end, he just wanted a college experience.
Interview With Greg Moore Pitching Coach At The University Of San Francisco
When Greg Moore was a promising college pitching prospect at Long Beach City College and the University of San Francisco he wanted to be a police officer. But, the course of his life would change when he was injured and could not pitch the way he was capable. “I would not have traded that injury for anything; it made me realize how precious the time is where we get to be ball players.”

“That injury made me think about my shoulder, mechanics, and it really molded me into what I wanted to do with my life, to coach. “

As a young pitching coach Greg admitted he knew what he knew but it wasn’t enough and he wanted to learn more. He leaned on the fact that he liked getting to know people. This practice introduced him to Alan Jaeger. (One of the best private pitching instructors in the country) “Alan’s passion grabs you, at first. He has so much knowledge and he is excited to share. He also makes it simple which makes it so powerful.” Greg related well to Alan and his belief that, as athletes, we do what we want to do and we want to push ourselves but need to be smart in doing it. “Alan knows pitchers and what to do and how to do it, but he related it to how I like to throw and to me, that was the most memorable.” It is this relationship that has helped make Greg one of the premiere pitching coaches in the country but he admits that while he utilizes many aspects of the Jaeger method it is important to him to customize workouts for each individual player.
The more I read about Zimmer the more I like this guy. Can't wait to see what he does in the organization.

It will be interesting to see how things work out with Zimmer. Jaeger is pretty big in the long toss community and the Royals have said they dont employ it and honestly i dont know if they agree with it. It could have been a McClure thing though.

But he is younger than his draft class and has pitched for less time.

link? I assumed McClure didnt like it so its logical that the new coach may want to change things.

I know of several coaches around town that use it and so far its had good results. Not as extreme as in the video (we're talking 9/10 year olds and a bit older) but arms have been healthy and they get alot of pop. They're also learning the right mechanics which helps.

I'll have to do some searching. I don't remember when or where I read it. Probably somewhere over at Pine Tar Press in the offseason. There was some speculation that with bringing it back that Monty might improve as that was something he was big into. I believe Odorizzi uses it as well.
