Not sure how I completely missed the post above from Ben. I'm claiming a glitch in the matrix.

I may have to eventually check out the Skykings. We all know how my anxiety works though so we'll see.

KAKE - Wichita's new pro basketball team draws big crowd, celebrity meet and greet at first home game

Brian Baumgartner, also known as Kevin from "The Office," spent the day hanging out with fans and cheering on the Wichita Sky Kings.

"I'm staying for the whole game," Baumgartner said. "As long as you know, they win. They better win."

Team Owner Ben Hamd says going to a Wichita Sky Kings game means a lot more than just great basketball.

"Cryo effects, jumbotron effects, music, t-shirts, giveaways with celebrities," said Hamd. "All of that is what you can expect from the Wichita Sky Kings."

Even though fans like Nickole had ulterior motives for being there Friday, she says she'll be back, but fans have just one question - what does Brian think of Wichita?

"So far it's been great! I've checked it out and walked around Old Town, I think it's called, a little bit," said Baumgartner. "(I) had a fantastic coffee and lunch today and yeah, I'm really, really excited to be here."
I think I saw a post of FB where Bow Wow is supposed to be making an appearance soon. So they're definitely bringing in some level of celebrity to help promote games which is pretty wise. I'm not personally someone who seeks such things out but I get it. Kevin was a great character in The Office (though Parks & Rec is better). Bow Wow I'm sure appeals to some segment of potential fans. It will be interesting to see who else pops up this season.

Regardless, the Skykings are off to a hot start

I'd like to update folks on the NBA X Skykings connection.

        We just signed Doral Moore
        7'1
Top 60 prospect coming out of high school
G league coming out of Wake forest
        Currently a Skyking

Isaac Johnson (who we currently have)
just signed a deal with the Boston Celtics G league team to join their roster for the playoffs, they didn't make the playin game so we retained him which is good for us.

But basically getting these G league guys here in Wichita is pretty cool and for basketball people it's nice to see

Cle would be nice for the Skykings. Any local guys would help them get fans in. I don't know if money compensation has been mentioned on here, but I doubt that players will make a lot of it in this league, and that may limit the talent level, but we have several guys who can still play, and are in shape that come every summer.

AOL - Wichita Sky Kings bringing Markquis Nowell, Chiefs' Super Bowl champion to April games

Fresh off leading K-State to the Elite Eight in this year’s NCAA tournament, Wildcat star Markquis Nowell will be in attendance for the Sky Kings’ game on Sunday, April 16 at Koch Arena. Kids under 10 are free with a paid adult ticket, which begin at $16 on GoShockers.com.

Sky Kings owner Ben Hamd said that Nowell will be signing autographs and meeting all fans before the game and during halftime. Fans seeking autographs are encouraged to arrive at 2 p.m., one hour prior to tip-off.

The next week Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who caught two touchdowns during the Chiefs’ playoff run as Super Bowl champions, will be coming to the Sky Kings’ game on Friday, April 21 at Koch Arena with doors opening at 6 p.m. A meet-and-greet with autographs with the receiver will also be available.

Nowell and Valdes-Scantling are the first star athletes that Hamd has landed in his string of celebrity meet-and-greets this spring, which has also featured Brian Baumgartner (“Kevin” from The Office), Richard Karn (“Al” from Home Improvement), Larry Thomas (“Soup Naz” from Seinfeld) and the rapper Bow Wow.
Sky Kings are currently in 2nd place at 9-2 and Teddy Buckets is averaging 28.8 ppg.

Very cool. Will have to see if I can make it out at some point.

                      It's official!
MVS from the chiefs is coming April 21st, remember how I said free tickets in a few posts...still applies here ;)
Meet a superbowl champ, get his autograph, and get a picture!

IF you are so inclined you can buy tickets on our website but happy to give free tickets at the door to shocker faithful.

We also have Markquis Nowell hosting on April 16th. Side note we almost lost our starting PF to the Celtics G league team, but they didn't get the playin game, so he flew up there and flew back. Chance to see these guys before they make the NBA for next to nothing. Lindy Waters for OKC was in our region literally last year.

And for reference our guys make more than overseas guys and are actually looked at by the NBA as better than overseas guys. For example, Cle plays in Mongolia, none of those guys would make our team. All of our guys played TBT and a few of our guys went further than the shockers. Money is not an issue in this league, it's actually the opposite. Trying to overcome that Stereotype is hard. Guys overseas make less than our guys including several of the historical shocker players from 2013, and to be frank a lot of those guys wouldn't make our roster.

Cle possibly, and maybe a few of the others who are in shape, but a lot of them not so much. Our guys turned down overseas basketball to play here because they know our league sends a few guys a year to the NBA, not the G league, the NBA. You can't say the same for the majority of overseas basketball.

Maybe this is a better fit for Tyson Etienne than the G League or overseas?

Craig Porter too if he doesn't get an NBA gig -- which I still think he has an outside chance.
